Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, underwent an emergency three-hour surgery to have his left leg amputated below the knee after a blood clot cut off circulation, his son confirmed.

Thomas Markle Jr. told the Daily Mail that the 81-year-old’s foot “turned blue and then black,” and the situation escalated so quickly that doctors said amputation was the only option. “It was a case of life or death,” he explained.

After initial scans and an ultrasound at a local hospital in the Philippines, Thomas Sr. was rushed by ambulance to a larger hospital in Cebu, where surgeons immediately removed the limb. He will need a second procedure to remove a blood clot in his left thigh. Doctors remain “extremely concerned” about his condition, especially with the risk of infection, sepsis, or gangrene.

“One of his doctors said the next two or three days are critical. The wound is healing, but at his age, things could change quickly,” Thomas Jr. said.

Thomas Sr. has faced serious health challenges in recent years. He suffered two heart attacks and a stroke, and was hospitalized in Tijuana, Mexico, in 2022. He was also forced to miss Meghan’s 2018 wedding to Prince Harry due to heart surgery.

Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha Markle, expressed concern for their father, telling the Daily Mail, “He is a strong man, but he has been through so much. I am praying that he is strong enough to survive this.”

Meghan and Prince Harry have not publicly commented on the situation. Thomas Markle remains in the ICU as doctors continue to monitor his condition closely.
