What started as a summer afternoon with kids selling lemonade turned into a nightmare when a car plowed into three young girls, leaving them clinging to life and their families in shock.

The scene unfolded in a North Carolina mobile home park on what should’ve been a peaceful Saturday. Witnesses say 24-year-old Haley Erin McCorkle tried to turn left out of a driveway when she allegedly failed to yield and collided with a Nissan Altima. That vehicle then veered off the road and slammed into a makeshift lemonade stand, mowing down the three children—ages 7, 8, and 9.

“It was chaos. We thought all three of them were dead,” said Jessica Tallent, mother of one of the girls, choking back tears. “It’s been very emotional. I was bawling my eyes out.”

Two of the injured children were airlifted to a trauma center. The third was taken by ambulance. All remain hospitalized with critical injuries, though officials say they are stable.

The Nissan driver was not at fault, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Neither adult driver was injured. McCorkle, however, is now facing a misdemeanor charge for failure to yield causing bodily injury.

Investigators confirmed she was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Nor was she speeding. “It was just a moment of inattention,” a patrol spokesperson said. “But the consequences were devastating.”

A teenage sibling who witnessed the crash told reporters she acted on instinct: “I just ran and got my mom. I didn’t know what else to do.”

The tight-knit community is reeling. Families are devastated, and neighbors have created a makeshift memorial where the girls had set up their stand. Teddy bears, hand-written notes, and plastic cups of untouched lemonade line the sidewalk.

“It’s very hard,” said David Denton, a relative of one of the injured girls. “The parents shouldn’t have to see nothing like that. No one should.”

The families are now asking for prayers and support as the children face a long road to recovery. A GoFundMe has been launched to help cover medical expenses, and the story has sparked a wave of outrage over what many are calling “a senseless tragedy.”

“We just want them home,” Tallent added. “We just want them to be okay.”

Authorities have not said whether additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
