President Donald Trump is standing firm: no public apology, no deal. The White House has reportedly halted all negotiations on a U.S.-Ukraine minerals agreement until Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issues a formal, public apology for his behavior during a tense Oval Office meeting last week.

Oval Office Showdown

Sources inside the administration told Fox News that the meeting, intended to finalize an agreement on U.S. investment in Ukraine’s vast mineral reserves, quickly turned into a heated exchange. Trump and Vice President JD Vance took Zelensky to task over what they called his “lack of gratitude” for American aid in Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia.

“President Trump was very clear: America has been more than generous. Billions in aid, military support, and yet Zelensky came in acting like it’s never enough,” a senior White House official told reporters.

When the discussion turned contentious, Zelensky reportedly cut the meeting short and left the White House early. Trump later took to Truth Social, blasting the Ukrainian leader for his “disrespect” and saying, “Zelensky should remember who his real friends are. The United States has stood with Ukraine, and we deserve respect, not demands.”

Dress Code Drama

Adding to the tensions, Trump was reportedly irritated by Zelensky’s attire. White House aides had advised the Ukrainian leader’s team that formal business attire would be appropriate for the meeting. Instead, Zelensky arrived in a black casual outfit—a move some in Trump’s circle saw as intentional.

Upon greeting the Ukrainian leader, Trump quipped, “He’s all dressed up today,” in a remark dripping with sarcasm, according to those present.

Zelensky Stands His Ground

On Sunday, Zelensky told reporters he remains open to “constructive dialogue” with the U.S. but made no mention of any planned apology. “I will return to the White House if invited,” he said. However, whether he will bow to Trump’s demand for a public statement remains uncertain.

Pressure on Ukraine to Concede

Meanwhile, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz suggested that Ukraine should consider territorial concessions to end the war with Russia, a position Trump has previously hinted at.

“The reality is that Ukraine can’t win this war without endless U.S. support, and that’s just not realistic,” Waltz told Fox News. “At some point, they’re going to have to make some hard choices.”

Moscow, which launched its full-scale invasion in 2022, currently occupies about 20% of Ukraine’s land. Ukraine, backed by most of the West, refuses to recognize any territorial losses as legitimate.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Georgiy Tykhy dismissed Russia’s claims, calling them “laughable” and insisting that no land will be ceded. But with Trump in the White House and a shift in America’s stance, Ukraine may find itself with fewer options than before.

For now, the fate of the minerals deal—and perhaps broader U.S.-Ukraine relations—hinges on one question: Will Zelensky swallow his pride and apologize, or will the standoff continue?

  1. If anyone should apologize it MUST be trump and Vance they so very ignorant and completely disrespectful and I wish Pres
ZELENSKY would have walked out of the horrible meeting.trump Vance the pair should be on their knees.not only did they make utter foods of themselves and now the world truly see what kind of idiots are running the states

  2. Apologize in public? You’re something else Donald J. Trump, along with Vance. How you and your Vice behaved during your meeting, is the most embarrassing any President and Vice has ever performed. I’m ashamed and not proud that you both are going to run this Country, including Musk

  3. Absolutely ridiculous for trump to even imagine that ANYONE would cow-tow to him. He is crazy!

  4. You really are democrats, lazy and greedy, never satisfied, gimme, gimme is what you expect! Get over it, republicans are in charge now!! Zelenskyy, your stupid like democrats. Done deal, get ready for Your daddy Putin . Call democrats to help?

  5. Perhaps the democrats would each throw a couple of thou to him to make Zelensky happy….oh wait. That would be well short of what Biden was throwing him. ($50 billion) If Zelensky would sell his house in Florida, that would be a $35 mil start.😜

  6. He does not owe Trump an apology. Trump owes him one. So tired of Trump and his ego and destroying our Country
