Could the mysteries of the deep hide something out of this world? That’s what Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) suggested during a recent interview, claiming an unidentified admiral shared startling accounts of an alien craft beneath the waves.

“They tell me something’s moving at hundreds of miles an hour underwater—something as large as a football field,” Burchett revealed during a conversation with former congressman Matt Gaetz, now a host on One America News. “This was a documented case, and I have an admiral telling me this stuff.”

Burchett, a vocal advocate for greater transparency on UFOs, didn’t shy away from tying these claims to his broader beliefs. “In God’s great universe, anything is possible,” he said, urging Americans to keep an open mind while remaining calm.

“I’m not worried about them harming me,” he added. “With that kind of capability, they’d have barbecued us a long time ago.”

While skeptics point out there’s no concrete evidence of intelligent life beyond Earth, Burchett insists the government knows more than it’s letting on.

Congress and UFOs: From Fringe to Focus

Burchett’s comments come as Congress takes a more serious look at Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs)—a term that has replaced “UFOs” to include unusual objects in air, space, and even under the sea.

In 2024, the Pentagon released a report addressing public interest in UAPs. It concluded that most sightings had logical explanations: weather balloons, drones, spy planes, or natural atmospheric phenomena.

However, this followed a bombshell 2023 congressional hearing where former Air Force intelligence officer David Grusch alleged that the government had recovered “non-human biologics” from crash sites. Though Grusch provided no physical evidence, his testimony reignited debates about whether the U.S. government has long concealed the truth about extraterrestrial life.

“The public deserves to know what’s out there,” Burchett declared in a separate statement last year, aligning himself with a bipartisan group of lawmakers calling for declassification of UAP-related materials.

UFOs and the Republican Base

For some Republicans, interest in UFOs intersects with larger concerns about government secrecy. A December 2024 Rasmussen poll found that 42% of Republican voters believe the government knows more about UFOs than it admits.

Others tie the phenomenon to their faith. “I believe God created the heavens and the Earth,” said Mary Fletcher, a retired schoolteacher from Georgia. “If there’s life out there, it’s part of His plan. But I’d like to know the truth.”

For Burchett, the question isn’t just about aliens—it’s about accountability. “We’re spending billions on intelligence agencies,” he said. “The American people deserve to know where their money is going and what’s really happening in our skies—and under our oceans.”

As the debate continues, one thing is clear: what was once a fringe topic is now firmly on the political radar.
