Tennessee Congressman Tim Burchett is bruised but unbroken after a harrowing accident on his rural property left him with a fractured rib and a story to tell.
The 60-year-old Republican—one of President Trump’s staunchest allies in Congress—was tending to chores last weekend when a startled horse lashed out, catching Burchett with a powerful kick.
Burchett’s team confirmed the incident on Tuesday, insisting their boss is “tough as nails.” Press Secretary Will Garrett told the Daily Beast, “He hasn’t missed a beat. There have been no changes to his schedule.” In fact, Burchett was back speaking to supporters in Maury County just hours later, and is reportedly pressing ahead with a full slate of district events.
Rural Grit Runs in the Family
For Burchett, the accident is a grim echo of a family ordeal. Nearly three years ago, his daughter faced her own brush with tragedy after a horse-related fall sent her to the ICU with five broken ribs, a shattered wrist, and internal injuries. Burchett reflected on the ordeal at the time: “It could’ve been tragic. I told my wife—count our blessings because she’s alive, and that’s all we really care about.” The congressman called his daughter “a tough little girl—she’ll be back on that horse.”
Farm Life and Political Fire
Burchett, well-known in Tennessee for his hands-on approach and populist streak, has long championed rural and agricultural causes, a stance that has only strengthened under the Trump administration’s renewed focus on American farmers and “heartland values.” Friends and constituents say the congressman is “no stranger to hard knocks.”
Local supporter Cindy Dalton, who saw Burchett at a county meet-and-greet Monday night, told us, “He looked sore, but you could tell he wasn’t going to let anything keep him down. That’s Tim—always working for us.”
No Plans to Slow Down
Despite doctor’s orders for “rest and caution,” Burchett says he has “no plans to slow down.” With a string of public appearances, town halls, and a possible White House visit on the calendar, the congressman is determined to keep fighting for Tennessee under President Trump’s leadership.
“Life on the farm is unpredictable,” Burchett joked at a Tuesday event. “But so is life in Congress these days. You just get up, dust off, and keep moving forward.”
For now, Rep. Burchett is sore, but not sidelined—and if history is any guide, it will take more than a horse kick to knock him off course.
