MSNBC’s Morning Joe just hit rock bottom. The left-wing morning show, hosted by husband-wife duo Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, delivered its worst ratings since 2021, all thanks to a surprising meeting with none other than Donald J. Trump.
Scarborough and Brzezinski shocked their liberal fanbase when they admitted to visiting Trump at Mar-a-Lago. This move comes after years of bashing the 45th president, comparing him to dictators and parroting every Democratic talking point. Their sudden decision to “reset communications” with Trump left viewers angry—and changing the channel.
According to Nielsen, the fallout was immediate. The show cratered 41% in the critical 25-54 demographic and shed 16% of total viewers just days after the announcement. Between 7 and 8 a.m. alone, ratings nosedived 38% in the demo, dropping from 113,000 to a dismal 70,000 viewers. Even by the 9 a.m. hour, the damage wasn’t repaired.
It’s a sharp blow for a show that once enjoyed liberal support. But this isn’t an isolated event. MSNBC overall has been on a downward spiral since Trump’s stunning Election Day victory. Primetime ratings have collapsed by 54%, with daily averages sinking from over 1.1 million to just 736,000. Contrast that with Fox News, which now commands a whopping 73% of primetime cable news viewers.
Criticism of Morning Joe has come from all sides. Nikki Haley slammed Scarborough and Brzezinski, accusing them of groveling for ratings after vilifying Trump for years. Even comedian Jon Stewart joined the pile-on, mocking their hypocrisy. Liberals are furious, and conservatives aren’t buying their newfound friendliness with Trump.
But the decline of MSNBC isn’t just about Morning Joe. Trump’s dominance of the political scene has exposed the left’s hollow narrative. MSNBC peaked on Election Night, with Rachel Maddow drawing 6 million viewers. Yet just weeks later, the network has hemorrhaged its audience, losing more than half its primetime viewers in the coveted demo.
The meltdown has staffers scrambling. Reports suggest Comcast, MSNBC’s parent company, is considering a spin-off of its cable TV assets. Streaming platforms like Peacock are being prioritized as traditional cable news faces extinction.
Meanwhile, Trump remains at the center of the media universe. His meeting with Scarborough and Brzezinski—whether sincere or strategic—demonstrates his ability to dominate the headlines and shake up his detractors.
The real winner? Fox News. With its pro-Trump message and soaring ratings, it’s clear that mainstream Americans aren’t buying MSNBC’s tired leftist agenda. Scarborough and Brzezinski’s desperate attempt to stay relevant might just be the final nail in their credibility.
