MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” hosts, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, have stunned viewers with their shocking visit to President-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort.

The two, once friendly with Trump, became fierce media critics throughout his first administration, going so far as to accuse him of authoritarian leanings and irresponsibility. Now, they’re ready to cozy back up, calling it a “restart” of communication, leaving many scratching their heads about the sudden change.

The meeting, held last Friday, was the first face-to-face encounter between Trump and the Morning Joe hosts in seven years. Brzezinski opened Monday’s broadcast with the revelation: “Joe and I went to Mar-a-Lago to meet personally with President-elect Trump,” admitting it was a chance to discuss “a lot of issues,” like abortion and mass deportation, matters on which they’ve long opposed Trump.

Trump, for his part, seemed thrilled to be the center of attention, reportedly cheerful and upbeat during the meeting. According to Brzezinski, he showed “interest in finding common ground.” The hosts agreed to “restart communications,” a softening of relations that seems ironic after years of brutal exchanges.

During Trump’s first term, the relationship between him and Morning Joe disintegrated into very public mudslinging. Trump repeatedly insulted the hosts, calling Brzezinski “low I.Q. Crazy Mika” and falsely claiming she was “bleeding badly from a face-lift” at Mar-a-Lago in 2017—a jab many saw as crossing the line. He also peddled an unproven conspiracy theory that Scarborough was somehow involved in the 2001 death of a staffer when he was a congressman. Despite this, Scarborough and Brzezinski are now positioning themselves as open to Trump’s administration, calling it a “necessary new approach.”

Some will recall that Scarborough has been one of Trump’s loudest media critics. Just weeks before the election, he was warning about the “looming threat of authoritarianism,” even going on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” to sound the alarm on Trump’s supposed plan to silence the media. He accused Trump of threatening to jail MSNBC producers and claimed Trump wanted to “shut down CBS” over a 60 Minutes segment. Trump dismissed these claims as “sick” and “ridiculous.”

Despite all this, Scarborough’s willingness to return to Mar-a-Lago for a photo op and handshake with Trump has many questioning his integrity. Trump himself described the meeting to Fox News Digital as “extremely cordial,” and even claimed Scarborough and Brzezinski praised his 2024 campaign as “great and flawless…one for the history books.” Trump hinted they discussed potential administration appointments as well.

It seems the thaw between Trump and Morning Joe may also have a political edge, with Scarborough hinting that “Democratic leaders” he spoke to suggested it was “time for a new approach.” For those who know Morning Joe’s background, this shift is a striking change from their history of denouncing Trump’s policies and rhetoric.

The bizarre meeting underscores a shift in tone from Morning Joe, and it’s left viewers asking: Are Scarborough and Brzezinski abandoning their principles, or just trying to stay relevant? Whatever the reason, it’s a stark reminder of the peculiar alliances that can emerge in politics—especially when the cameras are rolling.

  1. If the meeting leads to tempering Trump worst instincts , then I welcome it (I honestly doubt it) If the meeting lead to them bending the knee to our new fascist master, the shame on them.

Nothing would please me more than be proving wrong about Trump and his regime of rejects as I do love the USA, but it is my expectations that Trump may very well accelerate our decline and the end of our Democratic Republic

  2. On a side note, Joe and Mika were once so tight withTrump, he hosted their wedding at his estate. They are literally snakes in the grass.
