A shocking burglary rocked Windsor Castle grounds last month, as two men allegedly breached the estate and made off with a black Isuzu pickup truck and a red quad bike. The audacious crime, which took place on October 13, has sent shockwaves through the royal security system.
Thames Valley Police confirmed the theft, revealing that the burglars entered a farm building on Crown Estate land under the cover of darkness. According to law enforcement, the suspects crashed through a security gate with a stolen vehicle during their getaway.
“They had to have been watching the castle for days, maybe weeks,” a source close to the investigation told The Sun. “They knew the layout, where the vehicles were stored, and the perfect moment to strike without getting caught.” The source further noted that the break-in went undetected until the criminals smashed through the Shaw Farm security gate. The force of the crash caused significant damage, necessitating a replacement.
At the time of the break-in, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three young children were staying nearby at Adelaide Cottage, a secluded four-bedroom residence on the estate. “It was late on a Sunday night, during a school week, so the kids were likely asleep in their beds, just a stone’s throw away,” the insider explained. However, the royal family was unaware of the burglary until the sound of the crash echoed through the estate.
This breach is not the first to occur at Windsor Castle. In December 2021, a man armed with a crossbow scaled the castle’s perimeter fence, intending to harm Queen Elizabeth II, who was staying at the castle. He was arrested, convicted of treason, and sentenced to nine years in prison. The latest incident raises questions about the security of the royal family’s residences, especially as armed police officers were recently removed from two key entrances to Windsor Castle.
Windsor Castle serves as one of the primary residences for King Charles and Queen Camilla, though they were not present at the time of the break-in. While the police continue their investigation, no arrests have been made.
The break-in has left many questioning the security measures at the royal estate. With rumors swirling and no official comment from Kensington or Buckingham Palace, one thing is clear: the royal family is facing serious concerns about the safety of their home.
