Longtime host of The View, Joy Behar, is under fire yet again—but this time, insiders say she may have finally crossed the line. During a live broadcast, the 82-year-old host shocked audiences and co-hosts alike when she casually exposed a personal, off-air confession made by fellow panelist Sara Haines.

The startling reveal? A brief, same-sex romance Haines had back in her college days. Making matters even more uncomfortable, Haines’ conservative parents were sitting in the audience at the time, reportedly adding extra tension to the incident.

The drama unfolded as Whoopi Goldberg, 68, attempted to smoothly transition into promoting the show’s “Behind the Table” podcast during Wednesday’s episode. Behar, however, abruptly interrupted with a jaw-dropping question aimed directly at Haines. “Are you going to bring up that lesbian relationship you said you had back at Smith [College]?” Behar asked with a grin, seemingly oblivious to the impact her words might have.

The moment was met with a mix of shock and laughter from the panel. Haines, 47, tried to play it off, covering her ears and jokingly shouting, “Dad, earmuffs! Earmuffs!” Her father’s reaction, as caught by cameras, was one of surprise—his mouth literally dropped—while her mother looked visibly taken aback. Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin swiftly reminded Behar that the personal tidbit had been shared “off-air,” but the damage was already done.

One insider from The View revealed to DailyMail.com that Behar’s on-air faux pas had repercussions behind the scenes. “Joy was blasted by her co-hosts and higher-ups for her comment about Sara’s college romance,” they said. “It’s one thing to be candid on air, but this crossed the line—morally and professionally, especially with Sara’s conservative family present. Joy’s lack of a filter may make for good TV, but this was too much.”

Behar reportedly issued a private apology to Haines, but insiders suggest it may not have been enough. “Joy’s known for her bold personality, but sometimes she lets it get the better of her. Embarrassing Sara like that was unprofessional and simply not okay,” the source added.

This isn’t Behar’s first on-air jab about Haines’ personal life. Just this past June, Behar jokingly referred to Haines as a “closet lipstick lesbian” after the married mom of three revealed that she had visited Cubbyhole, a popular Manhattan lesbian bar. Behar, known for her cheeky humor, even quipped about exploring her own same-sex romance “in her 90s,” which stirred further reactions from her co-hosts and the audience.

Sara Haines, who joined The View in 2016 and has been an on-and-off panelist since, is known for her grounded demeanor and candid discussions about her life. Raised in a conservative family, Haines went on to attend Smith College, a liberal women’s college in Massachusetts, where she briefly explored her identity before ultimately marrying lawyer Max Shifrin in 2014. Together, they are parents to three children, Alec, 8, Sandra, 6, and Caleb, 5. The casual and unexpected nature of Behar’s revelation reportedly left Haines’ family “embarrassed and stunned.”

“Certain topics are just off-limits, no matter how entertaining it may seem for TV,” said a The View production insider. “Joy’s apology is appreciated, but trust has been breached.”

As for Behar, who has been with The View since its early days in 1997 (save for a brief hiatus from 2013 to 2015), this incident adds to her colorful legacy on the show. Worth an estimated $30 million, she’s never shied away from controversy and is known for her outspokenness. Whether this particular incident will alter her approach on the show or impact her relationship with her co-hosts remains to be seen.

Time will tell if this latest on-air drama leads to any lasting changes on The View, but one thing is certain: Joy Behar knows how to keep the headlines buzzing.

  1. Behar is a pathetic, sick, unfunny, boring, loudmouth, blowheart, that should be booted from, the show for being a bore and stupid.
