Whoopi Goldberg Shuts Down Meghan Markle Talk on ‘The View’

Whoopi Goldberg made it crystal clear on Wednesday’s episode of The View—she’s over the Meghan Markle drama.

The 69-year-old actress and host refused to engage in the Hot Topics segment discussing the Duchess of Sussex’s latest headline-grabbing move: using her “HRH” royal title in a handwritten note to her friend, beauty mogul Jamie Kern Lima, despite stepping back from royal duties in 2020.

“Damn them!” Whoopi shouted sarcastically as the conversation kicked off. But as her co-host Sunny Hostin defended Markle’s right to use her title privately, Goldberg cut in with, “Wake me up when you’re done!” before slumping back in her chair in mock boredom.

After letting the others weigh in, Whoopi chimed back in with, “Can I ask a really dumb question that I just woke up for?” prompting Joy Behar to joke, “Are we that boring?”

“It’s the subject matter,” Goldberg deadpanned.

Rather than focusing on Markle, Goldberg turned her criticism toward Jamie Kern Lima for publicizing the note in the first place. “To me, I think if someone gives you a gift … I don’t feel like she needed to show that.”

Hostin, 56, called the moment “insightful,” to which Goldberg responded, “Well yeah, I’m old enough to be insightful.”

The controversy centers around a gift Lima received “about a year ago,” which she discussed on her podcast this week. The note in the basket read, “With Compliments of HRH the Duchess of Sussex,” setting off a new round of media backlash.

Sources close to Markle told The Post the title’s use wasn’t meant for public display and didn’t violate the agreement she and Prince Harry made with the late Queen Elizabeth, which allowed them to keep the HRH title but barred them from using it publicly.

On The View, Hostin stood by Markle, saying, “It was not to be used publicly… that was a private gift.”

Still, not everyone at the table agreed. Alyssa Farah Griffin called the move “a little cringe,” while also criticizing Prince William’s rumored plan to strip Meghan and Harry of their titles. “You only live once. Make up with your brother and his wife,” she said.

Sara Haines chimed in with her own critique, comparing it to a doctor who insists people call them “Doc.” “I would never refer to myself as Her Royal Highness,” she said.

Despite the lively debate, it was Whoopi’s eye-roll and instant dismissal of the topic that stole the moment—and likely echoed how plenty of viewers felt.
