Joy Behar, co-host of ABC’s “The View,” has once again put Meghan Markle in the spotlight, offering her take on why the former royal continues to spark controversy. During a “Hot Topics” segment, Behar, 82, claimed that the backlash against Markle is due to “jealousy.”
The discussion arose after Gwyneth Paltrow dismissed concerns that Markle’s latest Netflix venture, With Love, Meghan, was encroaching on her lifestyle brand, Goop. “I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes,” Paltrow, 52, told Vanity Fair. “There’s always more than enough to go around.”
The Shallow Hal actress recalled advice from her mother, Blythe Danner, stating, “Another woman is never your competition. What is right for you will find you.”
Behar then chimed in, asserting that women are more supportive of each other today than in past decades. But she also made a bold claim about Markle’s divisive reputation. “There’s something about her that triggers people,” Behar said. “Is it jealousy? Because we all wanted to marry a prince?”
Her co-host Ana Navarro, known for her own outspoken takes, quickly dismissed the idea, shaking her head as the show cut to a commercial.
The Markle Effect: Media Darling or Public Nuisance?
Despite Behar’s defense, Markle’s Netflix series has been met with widespread criticism. Many viewers find it insufferable, with The New York Post’s Kirsten Fleming ridiculing the show’s excessive self-indulgence.
“She carpet bombs every segment with the word ‘joy.’ If you took a shot every time she said it, you’d be blacked out 10 minutes into the first episode,” Fleming wrote. “Then again, that might make it more bearable.”
The eight-episode series, featuring guests like Mindy Kaling, skincare mogul Vicky Tsai, and food truck chef Roy Choi, was intended to present Markle as a lifestyle guru. However, critics argue it’s nothing more than another self-promotion campaign, with one reviewer calling it “exhausting” and “pointless.”
America’s Meghan Markle Fatigue
While Hollywood elites continue to fawn over Markle, much of America has had enough. From her Oprah interview to her Spotify flop and now this Netflix misfire, Markle remains a polarizing figure.
Despite negative reviews, Netflix has greenlit a second season of With Love, Meghan. In a social media post, Markle gushed over the renewal, writing, “Thanks for joining the party! Just wait until you see the fun we cooked up in Season 2!”
For many Americans, though, the question remains: Do we really need more Meghan Markle content?

Jealousy? A gold digging actress lucky enough to snag the Prince of Wales\’s brother and not motivated to perform royal duties in the UK, is dumped upon. Joy, or should that be Joyless, Behar should be careful on her accusations.
We don’t care about the evil View or evil Markle…
Personally, I think the criticism is ridiculous. I really like Megan and enjoyed her show, It was beautiful, simple dishes that I made at least 3 of them plus was inpressed by the balloon electric blower that I purchased because we love balloons for festivity. Leave the poor girl alone, she is just trying to find her nitche. Who care how many times she say joy, listen to all the critics and one just hears negativity. I would rather hear joy. This is foolishness! Women are mean.
I think the reason why people don’t like Maghan is because she didn’t like beaning a Royal.
they blame her for having Harry step away. Not because people were jealous.
Joy was just asking a question. Joy was not saying most people were jealous. she was just didn’t understand why no one like Maghan.
