King Charles may be one of the most powerful figures in Britain, but even the monarch reportedly found himself helpless against something far more mysterious — a ghost that allegedly followed him through one of the royal family’s most famous homes.
The bizarre encounter reportedly unfolded inside the library at Sandringham, the royal family’s sprawling country estate in Norfolk, England. According to paranormal historian Richard Felix, Charles was accompanied by a royal footman when the two allegedly encountered a ghostly presence that appeared to follow them around the room.
“Prince Charles was apparently terrified,” Felix revealed on HELLO!’s A Right Royal Podcast, claiming the future king and his servant were “followed around the library by a ghost!”
The chilling account, first reported in 2023, has resurfaced amid renewed interest in the royal family’s supposedly haunted residences. However, Charles has never publicly confirmed the incident, and there is no independent evidence that a supernatural encounter occurred.
Sandringham has been a cherished royal retreat since 1862, with generations of British monarchs spending Christmas and other family gatherings at the historic property. But if the stories are to be believed, its living occupants might not be the only ones wandering the halls.
Felix also claims Buckingham Palace has its own mysterious resident — the ghost of a hooded monk who supposedly roams the corridors. According to the paranormal historian, the haunting is connected to the palace’s alleged monastic history, although the story remains part of royal folklore rather than established fact.
Perhaps even more unsettling is that Charles’ wife, Queen Camilla, has openly described her own frightening experience at another royal property.
During the 2018 documentary The Real Camilla, she recalled visiting Dumfries House, an 18th-century Scottish mansion that Charles helped restore, and being overcome by an inexplicable feeling of dread.
“There was definitely a ghost — without a shadow of a doubt,” Camilla declared.
She described walking into the entrance hall and suddenly becoming unable to continue.
“I literally froze,” she recalled. “If my hair could stand on end, it would have done.”
The experience disturbed her so much that she avoided returning for several years. When she finally visited again after the property’s restoration, however, the frightening atmosphere seemed to have vanished.
“Whatever was there had disappeared,” she explained. “The whole thing seemed to be smiling again.”
And the spooky stories extend to the next generation. Prince William and Princess Kate’s country residence, Anmer Hall, is also rumored to be haunted by the spirit of a Catholic priest. Felix previously claimed William appeared remarkably unfazed by the property’s ghostly reputation.
Whether these tales are supernatural encounters, unexplained experiences or simply centuries-old legends remains a mystery. But one thing is certain: Britain’s royal residences have no shortage of ghost stories — and according to one paranormal historian, even the King himself wasn’t immune to a royal scare.
