Queen Camilla is said to be testing King Charles’ patience — and possibly his sanity — with one very specific (and very expensive) demand: she wants a brand-new library added to Buckingham Palace.

According to palace insiders, the 78-year-old Queen has been adamant that the ongoing $499 million palace renovation — already one of the costliest in royal history — should include a formal library. It’s a personal passion project for Camilla, who has long promoted literacy and reading initiatives. But for Charles, who’s 76, the timing couldn’t be worse.

“Books and reading have always been central to Camilla’s life,” said one insider. “She thinks it’s ridiculous that the monarch’s main residence doesn’t have a proper library. But Charles finds the whole thing incredibly frustrating — the project is already massive and expensive, and this just adds fuel to the fire.”

While Buckingham Palace boasts 775 rooms, it hasn’t had a library since King George IV donated his “King’s Library” collection to the British Museum nearly 200 years ago. Camilla reportedly wants to fix that — even if it means clashing with her husband over palace plans.

“Charles admires her dedication to reading,” another source said. “But he resents having his architectural plans challenged. She always said she’d stay out of structural decisions, and now she’s diving right in. It’s become a real source of tension between them.”

The renovation, which began under Queen Elizabeth II and is expected to last until 2027, already includes overhauls to the palace’s ancient plumbing, heating, and electrical systems. Charles, who is notoriously cost-conscious, allegedly feels the royal coffers have been stretched thin enough.

Despite her husband’s irritation, Camilla reportedly sees the library as her “cultural legacy.” One courtier told reporters she believes “the monarchy has a duty to promote learning,” and that a permanent library inside Buckingham Palace would symbolize that mission for generations to come.

“She’s not backing down,” the source added. “She thinks this is one of the most meaningful additions the palace could ever have.”

Meanwhile, other royals are making quieter moves of their own. Prince William and Princess Kate are said to be settling permanently into Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroom estate on the Windsor grounds — a move that breaks centuries of royal tradition to live near the castle rather than inside one.

Still, insiders say Camilla’s not about to let her grand idea fade. “Charles may be exasperated,” one royal aide quipped, “but when the Queen sets her mind on something — especially a library — there’s no stopping her.”

  1. She’s entitled to like and want whatever she likes or wants, doesn’t mean she’ll get it. Unfortunately she’s only there for a little longer, by the time they would get to it, she’ll no longer be living there anyway.

  2. Her next move will be to try and have the library named after her! Another of her nasty plans to force herself permanently on the castle where she never belonged in the first place. Want a library? Put it where people can actually use it, not locked away in the castle
