Pubgoers in Wiltshire got the royal surprise of their lives when Prince William casually popped into their local spot for lunch.
The Prince of Wales, 43, showed up unannounced at The Walnut Tree Inn on Thursday, November 27 — and staff say he was “incredibly polite, friendly, and down to earth.”
“He was a pleasure to serve,” said pub owner William Friend-James, who revealed that William’s visit was tied to Duchy of Cornwall business. “Everyone was a bit shocked when the Prince of Wales walked in.”
According to Friend-James, the future king didn’t go for caviar or champagne — instead, he ordered a homemade burger, fries, and a lemonade. The famous “Walnut Tree Burger,” which costs about $25, comes loaded with cheese, pickles, coleslaw, and relish. Other members of his six-person party tucked into homemade pies and sea bass.
Though the table had been reserved a week earlier, no one at the pub knew it was for royalty. “It was a working lunch,” Friend-James explained. “They weren’t bothered by anyone, and they had a lovely time.”
William also stopped to pose for a quick photo with staffer Lisa James, who bravely asked after the prince returned from the restroom. “He said yes right away,” Friend-James shared.
The pub later posted the royal photo on Facebook, writing, “It was our great pleasure to host HRH Prince of Wales for lunch at the Walnut Tree Inn yesterday. A big shoutout to Lisa, Grace, and the kitchen team for looking after him so well.”
William’s security detail quietly paid the bill — and left a generous tip before heading out.
The down-to-earth outing follows another recent pub moment from the prince, who earlier this year joined Aston Villa fans in Birmingham for a pre-match pint, chatting with them for over half an hour and even buying a round.
Looks like Prince William’s royal duties come with a side of fries — and plenty of charm.
