Henry County Jail

It’s the mugshot that’s breaking the internet — and for all the wrong reasons.

Police in Geneseo, Illinois, say 26-year-old Caleigh Gottsche was found hiding inside the walls of a local business after a bizarre late-night burglary attempt. When officers finally dragged her out, she looked more like a horror movie extra than a criminal suspect — her face, lashes, and hair completely caked in black mud.

According to police, the drama started when a business owner heard faint whispering behind a wall. The sound stopped when officers arrived, but returned hours later — prompting a second call and a full-on search of nearby stores.

That’s when cops realized the voice was coming from inside the wall. Firefighters helped tear it open and found Gottsche literally wedged between the interior panels, covered head-to-toe in dirt.

Two alleged accomplices managed to escape, but Gottsche wasn’t so lucky — and neither was her glam.

Her mugshot, released by the Henry County Jail, shows her with clumpy eyelashes, smeared foundation, and thick streaks of mud across her face. Fans online are already calling it “the dirtiest mugshot of the year.”

Ironically, this isn’t her first recent run-in with the law. Just three days earlier, the Davenport, Iowa native had been booked for driving while barred — and looked almost unrecognizable in her clean, polished booking photo.

Authorities say multiple businesses on South State Street sustained property damage in the attempted break-in. Gottsche now faces charges of burglary, property damage, and trespassing, while police continue hunting her two missing partners in grime.

Social media had plenty to say about her muddy downfall. One Facebook user joked, “She tried to hide from cops but ended up blending into the drywall instead.”

A truly dirty ending to a messy night.
