A shocking tragedy has struck aboard one of Britain’s biggest cruise liners. A crew member has died following an accident on the P&O Cruises ship Arvia, the company confirmed Sunday.
The unidentified crew member reportedly suffered fatal injuries during an onboard incident as the luxury 16-deck vessel made its way from Southampton to the Caribbean. The exact circumstances surrounding the accident remain unclear, but authorities and cruise officials have launched an investigation into what went wrong.
In a statement, a P&O Cruises spokesperson said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends both on board and at home. We are providing every possible support to them.”
The Arvia, which can carry over 5,000 guests and nearly 1,800 crew, departed Southampton on Friday for a 14-night transatlantic journey, with stops in the Canary Islands before reaching Barbados on November 7.
The ship is currently en route to Santa Cruz de Tenerife as passengers and crew process the devastating loss.
P&O Cruises has not released further details about the nature of the accident or the identity of the deceased crew member.
This heartbreaking event casts a somber shadow over what was meant to be a dream voyage across the Atlantic.
