Prince William is said to be furious over reports that his estranged brother, Prince Harry, and sister-in-law Meghan Markle are exploring a return to the United Kingdom.
Sources claim the future king is “determined to block” any effort by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to reestablish a base near the royal family or to repair ties with the monarchy.
According to insiders, Harry has instructed his representatives to quietly scout properties near Windsor Great Park. The Duke of Sussex, 41, reportedly wants a private home that is family-friendly and close enough to friends, family, and London.
“Harry wants his children to know his homeland,” one source shared. “He’s always imagined them spending holidays or even school terms in the U.K., and that idea has never gone away.”
While Harry appears eager to reestablish roots in Britain, Meghan is reportedly more cautious about the move. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, has nonetheless launched what sources are calling “Project Thaw,” a behind-the-scenes effort to ease tensions between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family. Insiders say the plan includes a proposed meeting between Meghan and Kate Middleton, in hopes that a reunion could help soften public opinion and pave the way for a gradual return to royal life.
However, those close to Prince William claim he is firmly opposed to any reconciliation at this stage. “William is determined to block, or at least severely hamper, Harry’s move to Windsor,” one royal insider said. “As heir to the throne, he feels it’s his responsibility to protect the institution from confusion or fresh controversy. He’s still hurt by the past and doesn’t want to reopen old wounds.”
While William’s stance remains firm, sources suggest that the Princess of Wales is taking a more measured approach. “Kate is sympathetic to Harry’s desire to reconnect but careful not to overstep,” an insider explained. “She wants peace between the brothers but knows it has to happen on William’s timeline. She’s willing to keep the door slightly open — just not push it.”
That said, Middleton is reportedly not ready to “brush aside the past” when it comes to Meghan. “Kate doesn’t want her back in the royal fold,” the source added.
Despite speculation of a royal thaw, the situation appears far from resolved. With William standing firm, Kate treading cautiously, and Meghan pursuing her own path, a full reconciliation between the royals remains uncertain.
