Robert Irwin is trading khakis for sequins — and it’s all in the name of family survival. The 21-year-old son of the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin is wowing America on Dancing With the Stars, but insiders say there’s more at stake than just the mirrorball trophy.

According to sources close to the Irwins, Robert’s mom, Terri, is counting on her handsome, big-hearted son to bring in major cash as Australia Zoo continues to struggle in the wake of financial strain and pandemic-era setbacks.

“The last few years have been really tough,” one insider said. “The zoo was hit hard during COVID, and Terri’s been doing everything she can to stay afloat. Now, Robert’s her best hope — he’s taking every opportunity he can to bring in money and keep Steve’s dream alive.”

When Steve Irwin tragically died in 2006, he left behind a modest $200,000 insurance policy — and since then, the family’s been fighting to preserve his beloved wildlife empire. Robert’s star power, however, might finally give them the boost they need.

The young wildlife warrior has already grabbed headlines Down Under for his racy new Bonds underwear campaign — a major deal set to launch in the U.S. “He’s really embracing his fame and using it to help his family,” another source said. “He’s good-looking, charming, and genuine — Hollywood loves him.”

Now partnered with DWTS pro Witney Carson, Robert is following in his sister Bindi’s footsteps — she won season 21 of the show back in 2015. “I’ve known Witney for 10 years,” Robert recalled. “When I found out she was my partner, I was just so stoked. I feel really safe with her. It’s nice.”

Behind the glitz and camera flashes, though, Robert’s mission is clear: to save the zoo and honor his dad’s memory. “Robert’s sole goal is to earn as much as he can to pay off debts and set up the zoo and his mom for the future,” the insider said.

As for his famous father, Robert reflected, “I hope that somewhere, somehow, he knows I’m trying to make him proud.”

From wrangling crocodiles to dancing under Hollywood lights, it’s safe to say Steve Irwin’s legacy is in good hands — and maybe, just maybe, on the verge of its biggest comeback yet.
