Prince Harry has reportedly torpedoed his fragile truce with King Charles — all because he’s demanding the return of taxpayer-funded police protection during visits to the UK.

According to royal insiders, the Duke of Sussex, 41, recently wrote to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood asking for a formal review of his security arrangements, reigniting a feud that had finally started to cool. “It’s not going to help matters,” one palace source told reporters. “We’re back to where we were.”

Harry lost his automatic right to royal protection in 2020 after quitting his duties and moving to California with Meghan Markle. Since then, he’s only been granted security on a case-by-case basis — something he’s been fighting in court for years. His latest appeal to the Home Office reportedly blindsided the Palace, especially as Charles, 76, continues to undergo cancer treatment.

The King and Harry briefly reunited in September for tea at Clarence House — their first meeting in nearly two years. But the renewed lobbying has now “complicated things for the King,” according to insiders, who say the monarch “cannot and will not lobby” government officials on his son’s behalf.

“He’s being told constantly that he should intervene, but that’s not how it works,” a royal aide explained. “It’s frustrating — as a father and as the King.”

Harry, however, believes his father should step in. After losing an earlier appeal in May, he called the ruling “a good old-fashioned establishment stitch-up,” reportedly telling friends, “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff.”

Behind the scenes, the Duke is said to have submitted a new risk assessment request to the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), arguing that the last review — conducted in 2019 — is long out of date. Supporters say he simply wants fair treatment, especially after a stalker came dangerously close to him during a charity visit in September.

Still, Buckingham Palace insists the matter is settled. “All of these issues have been examined repeatedly and meticulously by the courts, with the same conclusion each time,” a spokesman said.

As it stands, the King remains cautious about further contact with his youngest son — and what was meant to be the start of a royal reconciliation may now be slipping away once again.

  1. While, as a parent, I can understand him wanting protection/security (especially for the children and especially if he and they will be travelling), he really should have waited until the father/son relationship had grown a bit stronger instead of when it is still pretty fragile. Hopefully his father sees this for what it is and not some kind of strong-arm tactic as some may see it as and try to convince the King it is/was. Charles needs to stop listening to the little “voices” in his ears and listen more to his own head and heart. Listening to all those voices is partly why he’s in the position he’s in – both with Harry and otherwise.
