Chrissy Teigen is standing by her friend Meghan Markle — and calling out the world’s obsession with tearing her down.
In a new interview, the 39-year-old model opened up about her friendship with the Duchess of Sussex, describing Meghan as “a kind, good person” who’s been unfairly painted as controversial.
“It is insane to me how polarizing she is for so many different people,” Teigen said. “She really is just such a kind, good person that wants the best for her friends, her family, and her kids.”
Teigen added that the endless chatter about Meghan’s motives couldn’t be further from the truth. “People come up with all these different things that she could be about or what she wants, but it’s not that complicated,” she said. “People are always going to read into what they want to believe.”
Despite their Hollywood friendship, Teigen admitted their children haven’t had a chance to play together yet.
“I don’t leave the house,” Teigen joked. “I’m not joking — I don’t go anywhere. But if the time came up, absolutely.”
Teigen shares four kids — Luna, 9, Miles, 7, and twins Esti and Wren, 2 — with husband John Legend. Meghan and Prince Harry, who famously stepped back from royal life in 2020, live in Montecito with their two children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.
Teigen and Markle’s friendship dates back nearly two decades, when they both appeared as models on Deal or No Deal in the mid-2000s. “That was a past life,” Meghan later joked on her Netflix show With Love, Meghan, where the pair reunited.
“I feel like our lives have had so many chapters,” Teigen said on the episode. “I remember basically being a backup girl — the alternate!”
Teigen’s appearance on Meghan’s Netflix show stirred some backlash, given her own history of online controversy, including resurfaced cruel tweets about reality star Courtney Stodden. Still, Meghan’s decision to feature her on the series suggested she wasn’t swayed by public criticism — a quality Teigen says she deeply admires.
“People are just going to come up with their own story,” Teigen said. “I think it’s cool that Meghan’s like, ‘Say whatever you want. I’m happy, I’m healthy, I feel good.’”
Since moving to California, Meghan and Harry have built a close circle of Hollywood friends, including Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, and George and Amal Clooney. The couple now live in a $14 million Montecito mansion — a far cry from their days on the royal circuit in the U.K.
