President Donald Trump is demanding answers after what he called “triple sabotage” during his high-stakes appearance at the United Nations this week — an incident he insists nearly ended in disaster for both him and First Lady Melania Trump.

On Tuesday morning, Trump and Melania stepped onto an escalator leading to the General Assembly’s main speaking floor. Just seconds later, the moving steps screeched to a halt.

“It’s amazing that Melania and I didn’t fall forward onto the sharp edges of these steel steps, face first,” Trump fumed in a post on Truth Social. “It was only that we were each holding the handrail tightly or it would have been a disaster.”

The couple was forced to walk up the frozen escalator before Trump delivered his keynote speech. UN officials later claimed the sudden stop was caused by a safety feature triggered when a cameraman filming Trump leaned backward. But Trump isn’t buying it.

“This was absolutely sabotage,” he declared, citing a British newspaper report that UN staffers had previously joked about shutting off the escalator. “The people that did it should be arrested!”

Things only got worse when Trump reached the podium. For the first 15 minutes of his address, his teleprompter refused to function — a problem the president says derailed his carefully prepared remarks.

“The teleprompter was broken,” Trump complained. “But maybe it made the speech more interesting than it would have been otherwise.”

Trump insists the final blow came after his speech. According to him, world leaders inside the Assembly hall couldn’t hear a word.

“After making the speech, I was told that the sound was completely off in the auditorium,” he said. “Unless they used interpreters’ earpieces, they couldn’t hear a thing.”

Trump recalled asking Melania afterward how he did. “She said, ‘I couldn’t hear a word you said,’” he posted. “This wasn’t a coincidence. This was triple sabotage at the UN. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is echoing Trump’s anger, warning of consequences if foul play is confirmed.

“If someone at the UN intentionally stopped the escalator as the President and First Lady were stepping on, they need to be fired and investigated immediately,” Leavitt wrote on X. Appearing later on Fox News, she added, “I know that we have people, including United States Secret Service, who are looking into this to try to get to the bottom of it.”

The United Nations has strongly denied any deliberate act. In a detailed statement, officials said the escalator malfunction was purely mechanical:

“A subsequent investigation, including a readout of the machine’s central processing unit, indicated that the escalator had stopped after a built-in safety mechanism was triggered. The videographer may have inadvertently set it off,” the statement read.

UN officials have not yet commented on the president’s claims about the faulty teleprompter or the alleged audio blackout.

This isn’t the first time Trump has clashed with the United Nations. Throughout his presidency and post-White House years, he has accused the global body of bias, waste, and incompetence. Tuesday’s drama has only deepened that distrust.

“All security tapes at the escalator should be saved, especially the emergency stop button,” Trump warned. “The Secret Service is involved.”

As of Wednesday night, UN officials maintain there was no foul play — but Trump insists the world deserves a full investigation.

  1. Give us a break ! Now he’s paranoia is out of control. He’s such a narcissist and a disgrace. He is a dictator who doesn’t care about anyone but himself.

  2. I don’t think trump is very well liked at the United Nations. Of course, he has to act like a pompous ass, so I don’t blame them at all. He is not a good representative for our country. He presents a very poor image.

  3. He can’t even “handle” an escalator. Others have fallen on them (myself included), they (escalators) have stopped suddenly for one reason or another … life happens. Stuff happens. I doubt seriously if they had fallen they would have experienced some kind of serious, life-affecting injuries. And I seriously doubt it was some kind of “conspiracy” (as I’m sure he’ll spin it, as days go by). If he feels threatened for his security just by being on an escalator, then that kind of shows his overall mindset for anything and everything else. Should the leader of a country be afraid/worried/concerned about an escalator? I don’t think so.

Again, it’s always gotta be about him, and feeding in to his “fears” and whatever else, and making everyone else suffer the aftermath … even when it’s literally NOTHING.
