A routine bag check turned into a nightmare for a New York City store employee after two violent suspects allegedly punched and slashed a Five Below worker in a shocking broad-daylight attack inside a Five Below store.
Police say the terrifying incident unfolded around 4:05 p.m. Monday at the discount retailer in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood.
According to authorities and law enforcement sources, the two men entered the store on Fifth Avenue near 53rd Street when a 34-year-old employee attempted to check their bags at the door.
That simple request allegedly sent the pair into a violent rage.
Investigators say one of the suspects punched the worker while the other repeatedly slashed him across his body with a sharp object, leaving the employee suffering from what police described as severe cuts.
The brutal attack reportedly happened in front of stunned shoppers inside the store.
Emergency crews rushed the injured worker to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he was listed in stable condition despite suffering serious wounds.
After the attack, both suspects took off on foot and fled westbound on 53rd Street before officers arrived.
As of Thursday, neither suspect had been arrested.
The New York City Police Department released surveillance images of the suspects late Wednesday in hopes that the public can help track them down.
Police described one suspect as a man with a medium complexion who was last seen wearing a black jacket, gray sweater, gray sweatpants, and black sneakers.
The second suspect was described as a man with a light complexion wearing a black sweater, black pants, a blue face mask, and gray sneakers.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the attack to contact Crime Stoppers as the search for the violent duo continues.
