Charlie Kirk’s Accused Assassin Lived with Transgender Roommate?

The man accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk was reportedly living with a transgender roommate who is now a key witness for the FBI.

Law enforcement sources confirmed to reporters that Tyler Robinson, 22, lived with a roommate who was in the process of transitioning. While investigators have not released the roommate’s full identity, federal agents say the individual has been “fully cooperative” in handing over evidence, including private messages that have become central to the case.

A family member of the roommate, identified in public records as Lance Twiggs, described them as the “black sheep” of their St. George, Utah family. “I didn’t know if Twiggs was transitioning to become a woman, but it wouldn’t surprise me,” the relative told reporters. “They’d already been questioned by police.”

Kirk, 31, was gunned down on Sept. 4 while speaking at Utah Valley University as part of his “American Comeback” college tour. The conservative firebrand had just been asked a pointed question about transgender mass shooters when the assassin’s bullet struck him in the neck. Witnesses said the packed auditorium erupted in chaos.

“I heard the question, I heard Kirk’s response, and then it was just—bang,” said Hunter Kozak, the student who asked Kirk the now-haunting question. “It all happened in seconds.”

The suspect fled but was later tied to the crime through disturbing evidence, including Discord messages allegedly shared with the roommate. Investigators say Robinson bragged about bullet casings etched with anti-fascist messages. Police later recovered an imported Mauser .30-06-caliber rifle hidden in the woods near campus.

The roommate’s cooperation may have cracked the case wide open. Messages handed to the FBI detailed Robinson’s plan to change outfits, discard evidence, and bragged about firing the shot. Investigators say these digital breadcrumbs are now the foundation for the aggravated murder charge—Utah’s only death penalty-eligible offense.

“This was no spontaneous act,” one federal investigator told reporters. “The digital evidence provided by the roommate is devastating.”

Robinson grew up in a strict Mormon household but reportedly clashed with family members in recent years as he drifted into far-left politics. Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed the suspect had “become deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology.”

“It’s very clear to us and to the investigators that this was a person who was deeply indoctrinated,” Cox said Friday. “There were family arguments about Kirk. That’s how heated things had gotten.”

Robinson was a student at Dixie Technical College and, according to investigators, not affiliated with any political party. He did not vote in either of the last two elections. But authorities say he became increasingly militant online, discussing bullet etchings and sharing extremist rants.

Discord, the popular messaging app, confirmed it had terminated Robinson’s account but insisted, “There was no evidence that the suspect planned this incident or promoted violence on Discord.”

Robinson’s path to surrender was unexpected. Sources say he confessed after a confrontation with his father and a heart-to-heart with a local youth minister, who also happened to be a former sheriff’s deputy.
