The U.S. Military Academy at West Point has abruptly canceled a high-profile ceremony honoring Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks, sparking speculation that politics — and Hanks’ history as a vocal supporter of former President Joe Biden — played a role.

Hanks, 69, was scheduled to receive the prestigious Sylvanus Thayer Award on September 25. The ceremony was set to include a parade and formal tribute to commemorate his decades of work honoring service members.

From “Saving Private Ryan” to “Greyhound” and his involvement in establishing the National WWII Museum and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial, Hanks has long been celebrated for promoting the sacrifices of U.S. veterans.

But late Friday, West Point’s alumni association announced the entire event was off — with no promise of rescheduling.

In an internal email obtained by The Washington Post, the association apologized for the cancellation and cited a renewed focus on the school’s “core mission” of preparing cadets for war.

“This decision allows the Academy to continue its focus on its core mission of preparing cadets to lead, fight, and win as officers in the world’s most lethal force, the United States Army,” wrote retired Army Col. Mark Bieger, a Silver Star recipient for valor in Iraq.

Unofficially, however, a former West Point instructor told the Post the move seemed aimed at avoiding an “uncomfortable” situation between West Point leadership and President Donald Trump’s White House.

“It’s not lost on anyone that Hanks has mocked Trump supporters and aligned himself with Biden,” the source said. “This would have been a photo op the administration probably didn’t want.”

Hanks’ political leanings have been no secret. In 2020, he headlined a fundraiser for Joe Biden’s presidential campaign and later hosted a televised inauguration special following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

He also famously lampooned Trump voters in a viral Saturday Night Live sketch — something Trump allies haven’t forgotten.

While the White House has not publicly commented, administration officials have frequently criticized institutions and figures they perceive as hostile to the “America First” agenda.

It remains unknown whether Hanks will still receive the Sylvanus Thayer Award, which honors an “outstanding citizen” who did not attend West Point but exemplifies the Academy’s values.

Robert McDonald, a former Veterans Affairs secretary and chairman of the alumni association, praised Hanks earlier this year when the award was announced.

“Tom Hanks has done more for the positive portrayal of the American service member, more for the caring of the American veteran, their caregivers, and their family, and more for the American space program than almost anyone else,” McDonald said in June.

Hanks’ representatives have not issued a statement, and the actor has not commented publicly on the controversy.

For now, West Point’s abrupt reversal raises more questions than answers — especially in a political climate where entertainment, patriotism, and power are colliding like never before.

    1. Thank you for tossing Anti-American Hanks and not forcing him on our cadets/military that hate him!
Bad enough evil Jokementia Bribery FIRED 8,000 Best U.S. Troops for refusing the deadly untested nonworking DNA-altering carcinogen Covid fake ‘vaccines’… then begged them to come back when no one else would volunteer for a military under his evil!

  1. Well, Hanks deserves this award much, much more than Trump ever deserved ANY award ! Just another incident of sour grapes, and him having to get even with a person who is vocal against his majesty ! Just like the Stephen Colbert deal. And also Alec Baldwin for his Saturday Night Live mockery of our stupid highness ! We are rapidly losing our freedom of speech.

  2. Too bad for Tom Hanks because he associated with the WORST President ever, Biddy boy! Plus, he threw comments against DJT and his supporters who, by the way, is healing our Nation from the injuries that Biden cluelessly did to our Country!

Obviously, West Point was NOT PLEASED hearing about Hank’s loose mouth! In respect for our President Trump, West Point officials decided that Hank’s contribution to the military really wasn’t that significant.

Come on Hanks! You did this to yourself by hanging with a clueless, demented man pretending to be our president and then slinging nasty comments about DJT! SHAME ON YOU! You may be a good actor but your Reality sucks!

  3. At least Hanks (nor Biden) didn’t hang all over Epstein and his underage little girls like Trump did. If Don was there, he sampled the goods. Biden is a Saint compared to Pedo Don. I think Don’s goal of dictatorship is to be able to squash the Epstein files !! And anything else or anyone who snubs his butt !
