Charlie Sheen is baring it all in a shocking new Netflix documentary, aka Charlie Sheen, revealing intimate details about his past, his sexuality, and his wild days fueled by drugs and fame.
The 60-year-old former Two and a Half Men star admits to having sexual encounters with men during his crack-fueled binges, calling the decision “flipping the menu over” after years of being with women. “I’m not going to run from my past, or let it own me,” Sheen says in the film, according to People.
For Sheen, talking about his same-sex experiences publicly for the first time feels like a release. “Liberating. It’s f—ing liberating … just to talk about stuff,” he shares. “A train didn’t come through the side of the restaurant. A f—ing piano didn’t fall out of the sky. No one ran into the room and shot me.”
He also opened up on Good Morning America, revealing that his first encounters with men began while smoking crack. “That’s what started it,” Sheen admits. “That’s where it was born, or sparked. And in whatever chunks of time that I was off the pipe, trying to navigate that, trying to come to terms with it—‘Where did that come from? … Why did that happen?’—and then just finally being like, ‘So what?’ Some of it was weird. A lot of it was f—ing fun, and life goes on.”
Sheen also addressed his HIV diagnosis, which he revealed publicly in 2015 after being blackmailed by sexual partners who threatened to expose him. “I know for a fact that I never passed it on,” he insists.
The documentary coincides with the release of his memoir, The Book of Sheen, out September 9. Reflecting on his infamous “tiger blood” era, Sheen admits there’s one major regret: his 2011 “Violent Torpedo of Truth” tour following his chaotic 20/20 interview. “That tour didn’t have to happen,” he says. “I’ve combed through all the mental health manuals, and I’ve never found ‘exploitation’ as a good treatment protocol.”
These days, Sheen says life is quiet. After high-profile divorces from Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller, he’s focused on his kids and steering clear of the chaos that once defined his name. “My romantic life is as uneventful as it possibly could be, and it’s been that way for a long time,” Sheen says. “But I am open to love again. Probably not marriage, though!”
