A viral lake day moment is making waves online after Texas Senator Ted Cruz posted a video of his wife, Heidi, showing off her water-skiing skills at Lake Powell.
The 53-year-old was filmed cutting through the water with towering canyons in the background, racking up over 2.6 million views on X and more than 138,000 views on Instagram. Cruz, who just won his third Senate term last November, proudly called her “bad-ass” in his post, adding that the family was wrapping up a vacation before their daughters, Caroline and Catherine, head back to school.
“Right before school starts, we spent a wonderful week with the girls at the spectacular Lake Powell,” Cruz wrote in the one-minute, 37-second clip’s caption. “Here’s my bad-ass wife Heidi—water skiing with the majestic canyons behind her.”

Social media lit up with praise for Heidi’s long run on the water. “Wow, she’s good,” one X user wrote, while another added, “Very cool! She makes it look easy.” Instagram fans chimed in too, calling her “awesome” and “amazing.”
Not all comments stayed focused on her skills—some noted Lake Powell’s fluctuating water levels. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has warned that by late 2026, levels could drop low enough to halt hydropower production from the Glen Canyon Dam, which serves much of the Southwest.
For now, though, the Cruz family’s lake trip has turned into an online hit—part vacation highlight reel, part water-level conversation starter.

Hold up, you mean some liberal pansy couldn’t just say ‘wow, that’s cool!’ No way!
Fun thing to do but keep it personal in the family/friends…
