Jon Miyahara, the actor best known for his unforgettable deadpan performance as Brett Kobashigawa on NBC’s hit sitcom Superstore, has passed away at the age of 83. His cause of death and the exact date remain unknown.

The news was shared by fellow cast member Colton Dunn, who posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. Dunn called Miyahara a “really awesome guy” who had the rare talent to “speak volumes with just a look.”

Miyahara’s role as Brett—a silent, stone-faced employee whose reactions (or lack thereof) became a fan favorite—turned him into an unlikely cult icon. Despite being a man of few words on the show—literally, he only ever said “Oh s—”—he appeared in nearly every one of the show’s 113 episodes.

Fans adored Brett for his blank stares, random disappearing acts, and unshakeable calm amid the chaos.

In a memorable episode, store employees mistakenly believe Brett has died in a tornado and hold an emotional memorial service set to a ukulele version of Radiohead’s “Creep.” True to form, Brett strolls back into work the next day as if nothing happened.

Much like his character, Miyahara kept his personal life mostly private. Now, Superstore fans are paying tribute by rewatching classic Brett moments and playing “Creep” in his honor. His legacy lives on in the quiet power of a perfectly timed stare.
