The son of Hollywood power player Sam Haskell is dead—by his own hand—just two days before he was set to face a judge in one of Los Angeles’ most gruesome murder cases in recent memory.
Sam Haskell Jr., 35, accused of brutally killing and dismembering his wife and her parents, reportedly took his own life in jail Saturday, according to law enforcement sources. The cause of death has not yet been made public.
Haskell Jr., whose father once reigned as a top agent at the William Morris Talent Agency and repped A-list stars like George Clooney and Dolly Parton, had been awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for Monday. The court was expected to decide whether his horrific triple-murder case would proceed to trial.
A Nightmare in the Suburbs
The case against Haskell Jr. shocked even veteran LAPD detectives.
Prosecutors alleged that in November 2023, Haskell murdered his wife, Mei Li Haskell, and her parents, Gaoshan Li and Yanxiang Wang, inside the family’s Tarzana home. The victims’ bodies were reportedly dismembered and stuffed into black trash bags.
But Haskell’s attempt to dispose of the remains unraveled quickly.
According to police, Haskell hired four unsuspecting day laborers to haul what he claimed were bags of “rocks” to a dump site. But when the workers noticed a foul smell and felt the bags were “squishy,” one opened a bag—and saw what appeared to be human body parts.
Panicked, the crew returned to Haskell’s driveway, dumped the bags, refunded their pay, and sped off. Then they made a call that would blow the case wide open—911.
Caught on Camera, Torso Discovered
Security footage later obtained by TMZ showed Haskell loading the black bags into his car and driving off. Another clip showed him dumping something in a remote dumpster miles from his home.
That’s where a homeless man would make a shocking discovery: a woman’s torso. He, too, called 911. DNA tests confirmed it was the remains of Mei Li Haskell.
Despite extensive searches, authorities never recovered the bodies of Mei Li’s parents.
A Family Imploding
The Haskell household had reportedly been under enormous strain. Sources close to the investigation said the couple was dealing with serious financial troubles. The home—shared by Haskell Jr., his wife, their three young children, and her parents—had become a powder keg.
After his arrest, Haskell pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder. He was being held in solitary confinement in a Los Angeles jail. His suicide now ends a case that left a trail of trauma—and haunting unanswered questions.
A Hollywood Legacy in Ruin
The elder Sam Haskell’s reputation had long been golden in the entertainment world, but his son’s alleged crimes cast a long, dark shadow over the family name.
“This case was straight out of a horror film,” one LAPD investigator told us under condition of anonymity. “And just when you thought it couldn’t get more twisted, now he’s taken the coward’s exit.”
Haskell Jr.’s three children are reportedly in protective custody.
This is a developing story.
