Fifteen years after Gary Coleman’s mysterious death, shocking new revelations are shaking up the case — and casting fresh suspicion on the one woman who was with him during his final moments.
In the explosive two-hour premiere of A&E’s new docuseries Lie Detector: Truth or Deception, airing July 10 at 9 p.m. ET, Shannon Price — Coleman’s ex-wife — faces a lie detector test about her role in the Diff’rent Strokes star’s untimely demise. PEOPLE obtained exclusive access to the results… and they’re not doing Price any favors.
A Fatal Fall — And a Lingering Mystery
Coleman, the beloved child actor turned tragic tabloid figure, died in May 2010 after suffering a head injury in the Utah home he still shared with Price — despite their 2008 divorce. Price claimed he fell down the stairs. Two days later, she authorized doctors to pull him off life support. The death was ruled accidental, and no charges were ever filed.
But the circumstances never sat right with many of Coleman’s fans — or friends.
“She removed him from life support with breathtaking speed,” said a former friend of Coleman who asked not to be named. “And she never seemed too torn up about it.”
Now, a National Stage — and a Stunning Failure
Former FBI agent and polygraph examiner George Olivo asked Price three pointed questions for A&E’s lie detector special. Two produced murky, inconclusive results. But one — the most crucial — came back loud and clear.
Did Shannon Price cause Gary Coleman’s fall?
“She failed that question,” Olivo said bluntly on air. “Deception indicated.”
His assessment was unflinching: “There’s more to this story that hasn’t been told. The body never lies.”
Price Tries to Defend Herself — But Her Own Words Raise Eyebrows
“I would never hurt him,” Price insisted during filming. “His life was so fragile.”
But when pressed about why she didn’t render aid after finding Coleman bleeding, her answers shifted. “I could have helped him a little more,” she admitted. Then she deflected blame to the 911 operator: “They could’ve asked more specific questions.”
Olivo was having none of it. “Forget the operator,” he fired back. “You were there. You’re not the victim — he is.”
When confronted with the failed test, Price didn’t exactly deny it. “I’m not surprised,” she shrugged. “It’s a machine.”
No Charges — But No Closure
Price remains legally in the clear. “There’s a reason I’m not in prison,” she said on the show. “They did a thorough investigation.”
But Olivo had the final word: “There’s also a thing called lack of evidence. And I say you know exactly why you failed this test.”
The Aftershock
Todd Bridges, Coleman’s longtime co-star on Diff’rent Strokes, told PEOPLE earlier this year that he still has “a lot of questions” about how his friend died.
So does America.
With Lie Detector: Truth or Deception about to air to millions, the legacy of Gary Coleman — and the woman at the center of his final days — is back under a very bright spotlight.
Tune in July 10 at 9 p.m. ET on A&E to watch the full episode.
