Once America’s favorite brainy teen on “Modern Family,” Ariel Winter is now stepping into a far more dangerous — and shocking — role: posing as a 13-year-old girl to help take down child sex predators in real-time sting operations.

At 27, the former child star has joined forces with Artists for Change, a nonprofit focused on fighting sex crimes against children.

She’s now lending her celebrity — and her courage — to a gritty YouTube docuseries titled SCSA Undercover, where hidden cameras catch alleged predators in the act of arranging meetups with underage girls.

“I’m not playing a character. I’m putting myself in a position where real people believe I’m a vulnerable child,” Winter told producers during one emotionally raw moment on the show. “It’s terrifying. But if it stops even one monster, it’s worth it.”

In one sting operation conducted in Oklahoma City, Winter wears a blond wig, childlike clothes, and sits on a tween-style bed — all while chatting with a 31-year-old man who believed she was a 13-year-old girl. At one point, she even calls him “Daddy” in a disturbingly soft voice during a live video call, before he’s confronted by the crew.

“I can’t unhear the things these men say to who they think is a little girl,” Winter shared. “But I can use that horror to stop them from ever touching a real child.”

Best known for her role as Alex Dunphy on Modern Family from 2009 to 2020, Winter is turning her post-sitcom years into a campaign for justice. She’s partnered with both Artists for Change and The Scars Foundation — an organization founded by musician Sully Erna of Godsmack — to launch a 10-part series on child sex trafficking slated for release later this year.

“We want to show America that predators aren’t just lurking in the shadows. They look like normal guys. They could be in your neighborhood, at your job, or in your family,” she said in a candid interview. “Kids are being hunted — walking to school, going to the store. Every day. And nobody talks about it enough.”

In a world where celebrities often chase glamor, Ariel Winter is walking away from red carpets and walking into danger — hoping to wake up a nation.

“She’s not just pretending anymore,” said a member of the sting team. “She’s putting herself on the front line.”

And for Ariel Winter, this role might be her most important one yet.
