In a striking moment during a visit to Paris, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a chilling prediction: Russian President Vladimir Putin’s death is imminent — and with it, a turning point in the war.
“It’s a fact — he will die soon,” Zelenskyy told European media on March 26, following a private meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. “And that’s when it all ends.”
Zelenskyy didn’t mince words. As he warned of chaos erupting within Russia upon Putin’s death, his comments sent shockwaves through diplomatic circles.
Putin’s Health in the Spotlight Again
Rumors surrounding Putin’s declining health have been swirling for months. Just last week, Russian insiders leaked reports of what they claimed was a “mini-stroke.” Kremlin officials dismissed the claims, but the speculation hasn’t stopped.
Putin, 72, has rarely appeared in public without layers of protection and heavy makeup — fueling theories that Russia is hiding something.
A U.S. intelligence source speaking off the record told American Dispatch, “There have been red flags in Putin’s health for years. What Zelenskyy said is blunt, but not far-fetched.”
Ukraine’s Fear: A Power Vacuum in Moscow
But Zelenskyy’s remarks weren’t celebratory. Far from it. He admitted a deeper concern about what might follow in Russia.
“I am afraid that everything will collapse when he dies,” Zelenskyy said, warning of civil unrest and infighting among Russian elites. “He fears his own society.”
The Ukrainian leader claims that Putin’s iron grip is weakening — and that fear of the Russian people has become his greatest enemy. “He’s trying to hit the European Union from the inside,” Zelenskyy added, pointing at Hungary’s pro-Russian stance.
America Watching — But Standing Back
While European leaders gather in Paris today to coordinate strategies on Ukraine’s future, the United States will be noticeably absent.
President Donald Trump’s administration has not committed to any coalition plans involving NATO troops or a peacekeeping force. The message from Washington: no entanglements, no blank checks.
Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy on European affairs, dismissed the French-led coalition’s latest proposals. “It’s a posture. A pose. It’s simplistic,” he told The National Post on Tuesday, adding that America won’t support “foreign adventurism without a clear endgame.”
Zelenskyy Pleads for U.S. Strength
Zelenskyy used his platform in France to appeal directly to Washington. “We need America to stay strong. We need clarity,” he said.
He also pushed back hard against Russian demands. Moscow recently floated a deal: drop Western sanctions on food and fertilizer, and in return, Russia would “consider” upholding a ceasefire.
Zelenskyy wasn’t buying it.
“They want us to fold. But if we give in now, they’ll be back tomorrow,” he warned.
Europe on Alert
President Macron, speaking alongside Zelenskyy, hinted at what’s coming next.
“If there was a generalised aggression against Ukrainian soil, these armies would be under attack,” Macron said. “Our soldiers are ready. When deployed, they follow orders. And if conflict begins, they will respond.”
The French president is rallying European allies behind a new security framework — one that could eventually send troops into Ukraine to enforce a peace deal and deter future Russian aggression.
Behind closed doors, NATO generals have expressed concern that Russia, under a post-Putin leadership, could become even more volatile.
What Comes After Putin?
As the world watches the Kremlin for signs of weakness, the question haunting Western leaders is simple: What happens next?
A senior French diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Le Monde, “Zelenskyy is right. Putin’s death could change everything. Or it could make things far worse.”
One thing is clear: The war in Ukraine is no longer just about territory. It’s about the survival of Russia’s old order — and whether the West is ready to deal with what comes after it crumbles.
