On Monday morning, a Delta Air Lines flight bound for South Carolina suddenly found itself in a precarious situation when a mysterious ‘smoke’ began filling the cabin. Delta Flight 876, carrying 99 passengers and crew, was forced to return to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport at around 8:30 a.m. after the flight crew detected the unusual conditions.
Eyewitness footage captured the tense moments onboard, with passengers seen covering their noses as the haze spread. One passenger even recorded the dramatic evacuation, stating, “We are being evacuated off the plane.” Thanks to quick and professional action, all passengers safely exited the aircraft using emergency slides, and no injuries were reported.
In a statement, a Delta representative confirmed that the crew followed standard procedures immediately after the haze was noticed, emphasizing that “nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people.” The Federal Aviation Administration has since announced an investigation into the incident.
This isn’t the first time Delta has encountered such an unsettling event. Just two days earlier, another Delta flight—a 162-passenger Airbus A350-900 bound for Australia—had to return to Los Angeles when smoke was detected onboard. And, as if that wasn’t enough, last week a Delta flight experienced a shocking accident at Toronto Pearson Airport, where the plane flipped and burst into flames after landing. Although all crew and passengers survived that incident, the airline has already faced lawsuits and offered $30,000 in compensation to those affected.
