Matt Schlapp, the long-time chairman of the American Conservative Union (ACU) and a key figure in Republican politics, is facing fresh allegations of sexual misconduct just days before the high-profile Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C.
According to a report by independent journalist Yashar Ali, Schlapp allegedly groped a man at a Virginia bar on Saturday night, prompting bar staff to remove him from the establishment. Witnesses claim Schlapp had been making several patrons uncomfortable before the alleged incident.
One of the men involved spoke on the record, stating, “Every time I turned around, this guy was right there, one foot behind me. I was just not comfortable with this.” His girlfriend reportedly confronted Schlapp before the incident escalated. According to the report, Schlapp allegedly grabbed the man’s genitals while making direct eye contact.
After being escorted out, witnesses say Schlapp returned and engaged in a heated argument with other patrons before finally leaving.
Schlapp’s Response and CPAC’s Silence
CPAC organizers and the ACU have yet to issue an official response to the latest accusations. However, Schlapp, married to conservative commentator Mercedes Schlapp since 2002, has previously dismissed similar allegations as politically motivated attacks. The couple has five daughters and remains prominent figures in conservative circles.
This is not the first time Schlapp has faced such claims. In 2023, former Herschel Walker campaign staffer Carlton Huffman accused him of groping him during Walker’s Senate race. That accusation led to a $9 million lawsuit against both Matt and Mercedes Schlapp for battery and defamation. While Huffman later withdrew his claims, citing a “misunderstanding,” CNN reported that he received a $480,000 settlement through an insurance policy.
Schlapp defended himself at the time, stating, “From the beginning, I asserted my innocence… Our family was attacked, especially by a left-wing media that is focused on the destruction of conservatives regardless of the truth and the facts.”
Impact on CPAC and Conservative Leadership
CPAC, a major gathering of conservative activists and Republican leaders, is set to begin on February 19. The event features key figures such as former President Donald Trump, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, and media personalities Steve Bannon and Megyn Kelly.
Schlapp, as ACU chairman, has played a pivotal role in shaping the conference’s agenda, and these new allegations could cast a shadow over the event. With CPAC serving as a rallying point ahead of the 2024 elections, any disruption could impact its messaging and momentum.
As conservatives prepare to gather, the question remains whether these allegations will affect Schlapp’s standing within the movement or if they will be dismissed as another partisan attack.

Trump needs to look into this and decide if the guy needs to become a Democrat…
Innocent until proven Guilty only if you are a demorat, illegal, black, hispanic.
But if you are White, GOP, Christian, Jew, you are automatically Guilty.
Now I would believe Sen Graham, GOP is more likely in the closet with his toys, that this guy.
I believe in innocence until proven guilty. However, if this is an ongoing set up in bars directed at him maybe Mr. Schlapp should consider not patronizing bars unless his wife or a friend is with him so he would have a witness to refute such accusations. Common sense is a good thing to possess. If he is in fact guilty then he does not have the moral compass to be in the position that he is in and should step down from his position.
Thank you. Sandra.

This is years old news. Why is it being dredged up now. we need to ask ourselves.
Matt Schlapp has had multiple accusations levied against him for similar acts over the past several years! He has NEVER been cleared of these “so-called charges” but it keeps happening. If you look back at each accusation you will find each one was settled, and not cleared! As a Conservative MAGA Trumper, having someone like Schlapp in in such a key position for the GOP, the party, the movement and representing President Trump and all WE have fought for and hope to change, serious thought should be made to have Schlapp step away and not put the MAGA movement in such jeopardy. While this may be trumped up accusations the Left-Wing zealots will never let this go and this matter continues to be a liability! Time for Schlapp to step aside!
