A dramatic shooting unfolded outside a popular family entertainment venue south of Denver on Saturday night, resulting in the death of an armed man and the arrest of a female shooter, according to authorities.

The incident began around 11:50 p.m. at Main Event Highlands Ranch, a family-friendly spot offering bowling, laser tag, mini-golf, and more. Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene after receiving reports of an active shooter and found a man in the parking lot carrying a gun.

Officials said deputies ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he instead pointed it at them, prompting one deputy to fatally shoot him. Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prior to the deputies’ arrival, a shooting had occurred inside the venue between two women. One woman was shot in the chest and foot by another woman, who is now in custody. The injured woman was rushed to the hospital, but her condition remains unclear. A second woman was also hospitalized with a non-life-threatening medical issue.

The Main Event venue, which stays open until 2 a.m. on weekends, was bustling with patrons at the time of the shooting. “It was packed. There were a lot of people still here when the shots rang out,” said Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly. “Very dangerous situation. Multiple rounds were fired inside the business… this could have been much worse.”

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the female shooter or the armed man involved in the incident.
