Selena Gomez, the 32-year-old pop star and actress, has sparked outrage among conservative circles after sharing an emotional Instagram story criticizing former President Donald Trump’s intensified deportation policies.

In the since-deleted video, Gomez tearfully addressed the plight of undocumented immigrants impacted by the sweeping measures. “All my people are getting attacked,” Gomez sobbed. “The children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I’ll try everything, I promise.”

Her story, which included the words “I’m sorry” accompanied by a Mexican flag emoji, quickly went viral after being screen-recorded and circulated online. The reaction was swift and fierce, particularly among prominent conservative voices.

MAGA Backlash

Fox News contributor Tom Homan, a key figure in Trump’s border policies, pushed back hard on Gomez’s remarks. “We’re not targeting families,” Homan said during a segment Monday afternoon. “Our focus is on public safety threats and national security risks. These operations are essential to protect American citizens, and we won’t apologize for doing what’s right.”

Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, criticized Gomez’s emotional display as out of touch. “Where was this empathy for the 100,000 Americans killed by fentanyl or the countless children trafficked across the border?” he posted on X. “Why didn’t she shed tears for them? It seems she’s forgotten she’s American.”

Others, like commentator Matt Walsh, offered more pointed suggestions. “If you’re so upset about deportations, Selena, why not move to Mexico in solidarity? That’s something you could actually do.”

Historical Advocacy

Gomez’s video isn’t the first time she has weighed in on immigration. The Texas-born entertainer, whose grandparents entered the U.S. illegally in the 1970s before becoming citizens, has long been an advocate for immigrant rights.

In 2019, she executive-produced the Netflix series Living Undocumented, shedding light on the struggles of immigrant families facing deportation. At the time, she described the series as “heartbreaking but necessary.”

“I can’t even imagine what these kids being separated from their families are going through,” Gomez said in 2020, referring to family separations at the border during Trump’s first term. “It’s something that will traumatize them for the rest of their lives.”

A Growing Divide

The controversy comes as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported a record-breaking 956 arrests on Sunday alone, focusing on undocumented immigrants with criminal records. Trump’s campaign promise to “deport millions” has reignited debates over immigration policy, with critics accusing his administration of targeting vulnerable populations indiscriminately.

Trump supporters, however, argue these actions are a necessary step to restore law and order. “This isn’t about cruelty,” Homan explained. “This is about protecting American families and securing our borders.”

Selena Responds

Gomez, who remained silent amid the initial backlash, appeared to indirectly address her critics in a follow-up Instagram story. “Apparently it’s not OK to show empathy for people,” she wrote over a plain black background.

Her statement has done little to quell the outrage, with conservative pundits accusing the singer of hypocrisy, pointing to her luxurious California lifestyle as evidence of her disconnect from working-class Americans.

The Bigger Picture

The uproar highlights the widening cultural divide in America. On one side, critics see Gomez’s tears as a symbol of Hollywood’s perceived detachment from everyday realities. On the other, supporters argue her video underscores the moral imperative to address what they view as inhumane policies.

As immigration remains a polarizing issue, one thing is clear: the debate is far from over. Whether Gomez’s tearful video will shift public opinion or simply deepen existing divides is yet to be seen.

  1. Bull Shit
They came here illegally and if they really wanted to ne Americans. They should have tried immigration!!!!

  2. Perhaps well meant. But when we have avenues for legal immigration to the United States, what is the need for such histrionics

  3. How many illegals is she housing in her home? She could also send them money to them when they get back home to support them.

  4. Where was she when all the American citizens were being killed and assaulted by illegal criminals never saw any outrage then

  5. When you cross the border illegally, you’re breaking the law. There is a legal process for entering this country, follow it or suffer the consequences!
Selina and A.O.C. should get together and record a duet of bleeding heart liberal tears, something they both seem adept at turning on and off on command…

  6. At the end of the day, everyone knew what Trump planned to do since day 1. The majority of America voted for exactly what he’s doing..

A couple of reasons why Selena received so much backlash:
    1. Where were these tears when 300,000 + children went missing from the border (Presumably Trafficked)
    2. If this mattered so much, why not start an organization that would’ve supported her people through the legal immigration process?
It’s all about real life action not lala land crying and emotion baiting, that’s exactly what has been holding our nation back.
