Lara Trump revealed that her family was taken aback by the loss of friendships during her father-in-law’s first term as president. Speaking with the New York Post, Lara said, “I don’t think any of us anticipated the backlash. People who had been friends forever suddenly coming out and saying horrible things about my father-in-law and the family. It was very tough.”
The experience, she says, taught the Trump family valuable lessons about trust. “You get a sense of who’s around you for the right reasons and who isn’t. [Now] we’re particular with the people we let come into the trust tree,” she added.
According to Lara, the intense criticism played a role in Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner stepping back from political involvement. “Jared and Ivanka obviously were very, very much involved during the first term, and it was really tough on them. Every time we saw them, that was the constant — it was tough on them. It was tough on their family,” she explained.
Despite Ivanka and Jared’s retreat from the political scene, Lara has remained a central figure in Trump’s political comeback. She has been a prominent public face throughout his 2024 campaign, continuing to support his bid for the White House.

So sorry to hear that Lara. Karma can be a bitch. Please tell the President he is sending messages to my cell phone that I cannot respond to. It’s a flip phone and very, very difficult to use!
Please contact me here if necessary.
Love and prayers, Marilyn Leistner
