Trump Assassination Fears Erupt as Heavily Armed Man is Arrested Outside Golf Course

A heavily armed man was arrested near President Donald Trump’s Los Angeles-area golf club just two days before the president was scheduled to arrive, setting off fresh security fears following previous attempts on Trump’s life.

Federal agents allegedly spotted 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele walking around Trump National Golf Club on Sunday, August 2, taking photos and videos while appearing to watch security preparations underway at the property.

The timing immediately raised alarms.

Trump was expected to arrive in Los Angeles on Tuesday for a Republican National Committee fundraiser at the golf resort.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, plainclothes federal agents approached Taele after becoming suspicious of his behavior.

During a pat-down, officers allegedly discovered a 16-round magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition inside his pants pocket.

Investigators then searched Taele’s pickup truck, which was parked in the golf club’s lot.

Inside, authorities said they found a loaded handgun with a round already in the chamber, another loaded magazine containing hollow-point bullets and a pair of binoculars.

The disturbing discoveries did not end there.

Authorities searched Taele’s home on Monday and allegedly uncovered an illegally modified AR-style rifle, a .45-caliber handgun, body armor, high-capacity magazines and additional ammunition.

Investigators also recovered two radio signal devices, a fake badge reading “security protection agent” and several notebooks containing what officials described as “concerning statements.”

Taele was initially arrested on allegations of carrying a concealed firearm and possessing prohibited ammunition.

He pleaded not guilty Tuesday to four federal charges, including possession of an unregistered short-barreled rifle. That felony charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison.

Authorities have not publicly accused Taele of plotting to attack Trump, and investigators said they were still working to determine his intentions.

However, officials made it clear that his alleged behavior so close to the president’s visit could not be ignored.

“While we are still investigating the motives of this individual, we are thankful he was apprehended before the President’s visit,” First Assistant United States Attorney Bill Essayli said.

“Federal and local law enforcement stepped in early and prevented what could have been a dangerous situation from occurring. This investigation remains ongoing.”

Officials said Taele initially told federal agents that he worked for the State Department and was at the golf club as part of a security detail.

Authorities have not indicated that he actually held such a position.

“Mr. Taele’s troubling behavior at the President’s public golf course merely days before the President was expected to arrive raised serious red flags for law enforcement,” said Patrick Grandy, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office.

Grandy said the investigation led authorities to an unregistered firearm, a loaded weapon and several other items that caused concern.

“There is no room for error, particularly in light of previous attempts on President Trump’s life,” he said.

The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating alongside the Secret Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident has drawn chilling comparisons to the 2024 assassination attempt at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

In that case, Ryan Routh was accused of hiding near the course with a rifle while waiting for Trump to come into view.

Prosecutors said Routh had positioned himself inside a makeshift sniper’s nest near the sixth hole before Secret Service agents spotted him.

Routh was later convicted and sentenced to life in prison in February.

Trump arrived in Los Angeles late Tuesday as planned, while investigators continued digging into Taele’s background, writings and possible motive.
