Man Dies After Falling Asleep Inside Car in Walmart Parking Lot

What started as a quick nap outside a Las Vegas Walmart ended in a horrifying chain of events that police say turned into a deadly “crime of opportunity.”

Authorities say the shocking incident unfolded late Saturday morning, April 11, outside a Walmart Supercenter on West Charleston Boulevard. A man in his 30s had been sitting in the front passenger seat of a black Hyundai Sonata while a female family member went inside to shop. The car was left running—and that decision would prove fatal.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, everything changed in an instant.

A 55-year-old man, later identified as Harold Allen, allegedly slipped into the driver’s seat and took off—without realizing, or possibly not caring, that someone was still inside the vehicle.

“The man in the passenger seat woke up to another man essentially kidnapping him,” LVMPD Lt. Monique Rodriguez said during a press briefing.

What followed was pure chaos.

Police say Allen sped out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed before slamming into a silver minivan carrying two people. The impact sent the van spinning out of control. But the destruction didn’t stop there.

Moments later, the stolen car barreled into a pole and then crashed into a nearby boulder—killing the unsuspecting passenger trapped inside.

The victim, who had simply been resting moments earlier, died at the scene.

The two people in the minivan were rushed to a local hospital. The driver suffered minor injuries, while the passenger escaped unharmed.

Investigators say Allen did not know the victim and believe the entire घटना was random—a split-second decision that turned deadly.

Allen is now facing a long list of serious charges, including open murder with a deadly weapon, grand larceny of a motor vehicle, and kidnapping. He is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center as the investigation continues.

Police have not released the identity of the victim.
