Annabel Schofield — the Welsh-born actress who popped up on Dallas and became unforgettable to ’80s TV viewers thanks to a wildly iconic jeans commercial — has died at 62.
Schofield passed away on February 28 in Los Angeles after a three-year battle with cancer, according to multiple reports.
Fans had been following her health updates for months because Schofield documented her fight publicly, including on a GoFundMe page where she previously shared that her cancer had spread to her brain.
Before Hollywood casting calls, Schofield was already a global face — and then she became the face.
Her international breakout came via a Bugle Boy Jeans TV ad, where she famously purred, “Excuse me, are those Bugle Boy jeans you’re wearing?” The spot turned her into instant pop-culture shorthand for ’80s cool.
Born in Llanelli, Wales, Schofield built a major modeling career first, landing high-profile beauty and fashion campaigns and racking up magazine covers before making the jump to acting.
After moving to Los Angeles, she went on to play Laurel Ellis on Dallas, acting alongside Larry Hagman during the show’s later run. She also appeared in other projects over the years, including film work and TV roles that kept her steadily on screen.
Schofield continued sharing updates even as her health worsened. In her last post on January 18, she told followers she’d undergone surgery to remove a large mass from her nasal cavity, admitting she felt “pretty wobbly and weak,” but relieved she could breathe again.
Melissa Richardson, who represented Schofield early in her career, led emotional tributes — remembering her as “funny,” “real,” and “down to earth,” while praising her professionalism and presence.
Away from the spotlight, Schofield expanded into behind-the-scenes work, including production projects and later launching her own Burbank-based company, Bella Bene Productions.
She also wrote a semi-autobiographical novel, The Cherry Alignment, inspired by her life in the fast, surreal world of ’80s fashion and entertainment.
