Prince Harry may be at risk of becoming the “spare” all over again — this time, in his own marriage — as Meghan Markle quietly gears up for a Hollywood comeback, according to royal insiders.

Sources say the Duke of Sussex, 41, isn’t standing in the way of his wife’s ambitions, even if it means he could once again fade into the background — a role he famously explored in his memoir Spare.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield claims the dynamic feels eerily familiar.

“In the Royal Family, he was the spare to Prince William,” she said. “In Hollywood, he risks becoming the supporting character to Meghan Markle’s ambitions.”

Schofield added that Markle, 44, appears far more confident navigating the entertainment world she once dominated as a star of Suits, while Harry still struggles to define who he is outside the royal framework.

“Meghan has a clearer strategy and a stronger command of that ecosystem,” she explained. “Harry, by contrast, has struggled to define a role beyond being ‘Prince Harry,’ which leaves him vulnerable to fading into the background.”

The concern comes as Harry continues to adjust to life in California after stepping back from royal duties in 2020. According to Schofield, the move has left him unsettled.

“California seems to have left Harry unmoored,” she said. “He is far from his family, his military community, and the structure that once gave him direction. While he enjoys wealth and privacy, there’s a visible lack of grounding. To the public, he appears less settled than solid.”

Behind the scenes, tensions are reportedly growing over a deeply personal issue: their children’s privacy.

Meghan recently shared Instagram stories showing moments from family life with Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4 — including swimming, zoo visits, and outdoor activities in California. The clips, filmed around Palm Desert, featured partial views of the children’s faces, hair, and profiles, along with appearances by Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.

That move reportedly didn’t sit well with Harry, who has repeatedly warned about the dangers of social media for children and recently supported Australia’s ban on under-16s accessing certain platforms.

One insider said the posts reignited an argument Harry thought had been settled long ago.

“From his point of view, it feels like they’re right back in conflict mode,” the source explained. “Meghan continues to move forward exactly as she always has. Harry sees it as a familiar pattern of pushing boundaries, especially when it comes to how much of their children’s lives are shared.”

According to the insider, Harry believes even carefully curated or fleeting images undermine the couple’s long-standing stance on privacy — a stance that has defined much of their post-royal identity.

As Meghan rebuilds her public profile and launches new ventures tied to her lifestyle brand, As Ever, some royal watchers are left wondering whether Harry is once again slipping into a supporting role — not in the Palace this time, but under Hollywood lights.
