Hollywood legend Christopher Lloyd is facing a storm of online backlash after posting what he thought was a sweet Valentine’s Day tribute to his fifth wife — and the internet did not hold back.
The 87-year-old Back to the Future star shared a cozy photo of himself embracing 55-year-old Lisa Loiacono, captioning it, “It’s the sweetest love. My Valentine.”
Within hours, critics swarmed the comments, zeroing in on the couple’s 32-year age gap and Lloyd’s long marital history. What began as a romantic post quickly turned into a heated debate about age, love, and whether the beloved actor has pushed fans too far this time.
One source close to Lloyd said the reaction was “devastating.”
“He posted something heartfelt and joyful,” the insider revealed. “Instead, it became a referendum on his age and the fact that this is his fifth marriage. That was never his intention.”
Others were far less sympathetic online, with commenters openly mocking the relationship and questioning the optics of the decades-wide gap. Supporters, however, rushed to defend Lloyd, arguing that love in later life should be celebrated — not ridiculed.
The couple’s story reads like a Hollywood script. Lloyd first met Loiacono in 2012 when she was the real estate agent handling the sale of his Montecito home. Sparks flew, and by 2016, they were married in a quiet ceremony just before Thanksgiving.
In a twist few saw coming, Lloyd has remained close to his fourth wife, Jane Walker Wood. During the COVID lockdowns, Lloyd, Loiacono, Wood and her husband reportedly formed a tight-knit social bubble, even sharing meals together. Loiacono once joked in an interview that she hikes with Lloyd’s ex-wife every morning — prompting the actor to quip, “Funny how life works out.”
Lloyd has been married five times over the decades, previously tying the knot with Catherine Boyd, Kay Tornborg, Carol Ann Vanek and Wood before finding love again with Loiacono.
Despite the uproar, another insider insists the actor is standing firm.
“Christopher has lived a full life. He’s not going to apologize for who he loves at 87,” the source said. “He and Lisa are committed. That’s what matters to him.”
Still, the viral backlash proves one thing: even decades after stepping out of a DeLorean, Lloyd can’t seem to escape the turbulence of time — especially when it comes to love.
