In a story straight out of a Hollywood thriller, beloved filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer were murdered in their Los Angeles home—but what’s raising eyebrows across the internet is their surprising connection to a convicted killer on Texas death row.

Nanon Williams, a 51-year-old inmate locked up since he was 17, says he exchanged daily emails with the famous couple before their brutal deaths. He claims they even offered him a place to live if he were ever released from prison.

Now, their son Nick Reiner, 32, has been charged with their double murder.

According to Williams, the friendship began after the Reiners saw his performance piece, Lyrics From Lockdown—a show that explores racism, incarceration, and injustice in the American prison system. Williams says the couple connected deeply with his story and quickly formed a close bond, even calling him “family.”

“Michele was my heart,” he said.

Their daughter Romy Reiner—who made the heartbreaking discovery of her parents’ bodies on December 14—confirmed the unusual relationship, saying Williams had become a meaningful part of their lives.

Williams says Michele Singer sent him an email just hours before she was killed. Due to prison delays, he didn’t see the message until days later.

“I was looking on the prison tablet when I saw the headline,” Williams recalled. “I immediately sent her a message: ‘Please, this can’t be true. Please tell me the news is lying.’”

In total, Williams says he received three emails from the Reiners after their deaths—heartbreaking echoes from a bond that ended in unimaginable tragedy.

Just 48 hours before the killings, Rob and Michele Reiner, their daughter Romy, and friends Billy and Janice Crystal attended a performance of Lyrics From Lockdown in Los Angeles. Michele was so moved, she emailed Williams that night.

“We all said we can’t wait to watch it with you,” she wrote.

Williams claims the couple never sought public recognition for supporting him. “They didn’t want credit,” he said. “They loved me.”

Despite spending over three decades in prison and claiming innocence, Williams admits he barely knew who Rob Reiner was when they first connected. But their bond grew fast—and ended in a way no one could’ve imagined.

“The more they learned about my case, the more pissed off Rob got—and the more loving Michele became,” Williams said.

Nick Reiner is now behind bars, charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Meanwhile, the inmate his parents once considered family is left mourning from a prison cell.
