Former Lost icon and Marvel fan-favorite Evangeline Lilly has revealed she’s suffering from traumatic brain damage after a shocking accident in Hawaii — and her emotional update is leaving fans reeling.

The 46-year-old actress, best known for playing Kate on Lost and Hope Van Dyne in the Ant-Man franchise, posted a video on Instagram sharing that a May 2025 beach accident left her with a serious head injury that’s now impacting almost every part of her brain.

“Almost every area in my brain is functioning at a decreased capacity,” Lilly confessed, adding that she’s been diagnosed with a TBI — traumatic brain injury — and possible further complications still under investigation.

The incident happened last summer while Lilly was vacationing in Hawaii, where Lost was filmed. She fainted on the beach and slammed headfirst into a boulder, leaving her bruised, bloodied, and disoriented.

At the time, she told fans via Substack, “I fainted at the beach. And fell face-first into a boulder,” posting shocking photos of stitches between her nose and lip, and cuts across her chin. But only now is the full extent of her injury coming to light.

In her New Year’s Day video, Lilly reflected on the frightening experience, revealing that the injury forced her to slow down — and may have even saved her from deeper burnout.

“My cognitive decline is because I smashed my face open,” she said, “but it’s helped me to slow down.”

The actress explained that she’s dealt with fainting spells since childhood due to suspected hypoglycemia, but doctors now believe something else could be going on, after bloodwork failed to show low glucose even post-blackout.

Despite the grim diagnosis, Lilly told followers she’s feeling grateful. This year’s holiday season was the “most restful Christmas” she’s had since becoming a mom to two sons (born in 2011 and 2015), and she’s determined to recover.

“I’m still feeling extraordinarily grateful and blessed to be able to play for one more day, one more year on this beautiful living planet.”

She’s now working closely with doctors to understand the scope of the damage and begin the long journey toward healing.

Fans first fell in love with Lilly as the tough-but-tender fugitive Kate Austen on Lost, and later cheered her on as Marvel’s fierce Wasp. Now, she’s showing a whole new kind of strength — battling a hidden brain injury with honesty and courage.

Lilly’s raw confession has sparked an outpouring of support online, with fans flooding her comments with well wishes and prayers.
