Eric Dane’s heartbreaking health decline has left his estranged wife, Rebecca Gayheart, reeling — and her latest confession about how she’s “failing miserably” has fans feeling every ounce of the pain.

The former Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria star, 53, was diagnosed with ALS earlier this year, a degenerative illness that’s left him wheelchair-bound. Since his diagnosis, Gayheart — who married Dane in 2004 and shares two teenage daughters with him — has been candid about the emotional toll the disease has taken on their family.

On Rachel Bilson and Olivia Allen’s Broad Ideas podcast, Gayheart opened up about the reality of caring for her ex. “It’s super complicated,” she admitted, explaining how she’s trying to teach her daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, what it really means to “show up” for someone you love — even when it hurts.

“As a human being, it’s very humbling,” Gayheart shared. “I hope my kids learn you can be there for others, but you also have to show up for yourself. Life is just moments — good and bad — strung together.”

But despite her determination, the Jawbreaker actress admitted she’s been struggling to follow her own advice. “I’m failing miserably at taking care of myself,” she confessed, recalling how her therapist recently told her that “you don’t get a medal for suffering.”

The 53-year-old star filed for divorce back in 2018 but later withdrew the petition this year after Dane’s diagnosis. While they remain separated, Gayheart has made it her mission to ensure their daughters don’t carry regrets about their dad.

“I just want to make sure they never look back and think, ‘I wish I’d spent more time with my dad,’” she said. “I’m trying to help them have those moments with him now.”

It’s an emotional balancing act for a mother watching her family navigate unimaginable loss — and for fans, a heartbreaking reminder that love doesn’t always end when the marriage does.
