Prince Harry has taken another hit in his ongoing battle with the royal establishment — this time from his disgraced uncle, Prince Andrew.
Even after Andrew, 65, officially announced he would no longer use his Duke of York title amid renewed outrage over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, reports claim he’ll still enjoy taxpayer-funded royal protection.
“Even though he, like Harry, is no longer a working royal, it appears that he will continue to receive royal protection,” royal expert Christopher Andersen told reporters on October 17.
Andrew, who lives on the Windsor estate close to other members of the royal family, reportedly remains under the security umbrella that covers the grounds of Windsor Great Park.
Meanwhile, Harry — who stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California with Meghan Markle and their two children — continues to fight for his right to similar protection when visiting the U.K. His taxpayer-funded security was revoked when the Royal and VIP Executive Committee ruled that he was no longer eligible as a “working royal.”
Prince Andrew’s royal downfall began in 2019, when his friendship with Epstein made headlines and Virginia Giuffre accused him of sexual assault — an allegation Andrew denied before quietly settling the case out of court.
“It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein have become a major disruption to my family’s work,” he said in a 2019 statement after stepping back from royal duties with Queen Elizabeth II’s approval.
Now, six years later, fresh scandal has reignited scrutiny after alleged emails between Andrew and Epstein resurfaced. In a new statement, Andrew said, “In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honors which have been conferred upon me.”
The latest royal shake-up has revived an uncomfortable question: Why does Andrew, stripped of titles and disgraced by scandal, still receive royal protection — while Harry, the king’s own son, is left to fend for himself?
Harry’s security appeal was rejected in 2024, despite his insistence that he only sought safety for his family. “The U.K. is my birthplace and will always be a part of who I am,” Harry said after the ruling. “All I’ve been asking for is safety.”
As the monarchy works to protect its image under King Charles III, the optics of Andrew’s continued security detail — and Harry’s continued exclusion — may prove more damaging than ever.

Like comparing apples to oranges !!
Yep. Not understanding this whole thing at all. Edward has dragged the RF through scandals and what all else, gave up his titles, isn’t a working royal, etc etc…. he gets to keep his security detail and everything else. Harry hasn’t done HALF that crap, and loses the security detail for him and his family. Doesn’t. Make. Sense. Why does Edward get to keep all his “bells and whistles” and Harry, doesn’t? Charles has the royal ability to take away any “perks” from Edward, and yet he doesn’t.
I’m not saying Harry is perfect. He’s not. However when you compare the things Edward has done vs what Harry has done, it’s not even close, and yet Harry was “punished” far more harsh than his uncle.
