Tyrese Gibson — best known for his role as Roman Pearce in the Fast & Furious franchise — has been arrested in Atlanta on a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge after one of his dogs allegedly killed a neighbor’s pet.
The 46-year-old actor and R&B singer turned himself in to Fulton County Jail early Friday morning, October 3, following an arrest warrant issued earlier in the week. According to police, one of Gibson’s four Cane Corso Mastiffs fatally attacked a neighbor’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in his upscale Buckhead neighborhood.
After being booked, Gibson was released on a $20,000 bond. Fulton County authorities confirmed that as part of the investigation, all four of his dogs must be surrendered. At the time of his release, the animals had not yet been turned over.
Gibson’s attorney, Gabe Banks, said his client has been fully cooperative and is deeply remorseful. “Upon learning of this unfortunate accident, Mr. Gibson immediately made the difficult decision to rehome his dogs to a safe and loving environment,” Banks said in a statement, adding that Gibson “extends his deepest condolences to the family who lost their beloved dog.”
The deadly incident reportedly happened on September 18 while Gibson was away. A neighbor called 911 after witnessing one of the dogs attack and kill his small spaniel. Days later, on September 22, police executed a search warrant at Gibson’s home but found neither him nor the dogs there.
Authorities allege Gibson had been repeatedly warned about letting his dogs roam without leashes. Fulton County Captain Nicole Dwyer told reporters the actor’s “negligence” led to the death of an “innocent animal,” adding that he’d been cautioned multiple times before the fatal mauling.
Police sources said Gibson’s attorney requested more time to “get his affairs in order” before surrendering the dogs, which delayed the process. Despite that, Gibson reportedly cooperated once the warrant was issued.
Gibson, who rose to fame as an R&B singer with hits like How You Gonna Act Like That, has not publicly commented on the charge. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities determine whether further penalties will be pursued and what will happen to the dogs involved.
