Mel Gibson is said to be devastated after the sudden death of actress Nadia Farès, with friends allegedly worried the heartbreaking loss could push the Hollywood star back toward old destructive habits.
The Braveheart actor, 70, reportedly grew close to Farès, 57, after the two worked together on the 2022 thriller On the Line. Insiders claim the Moroccan-French actress became an important and steadying presence in Gibson’s life during a period when he was trying to stay focused, sober, and away from the scandals that once nearly destroyed his career.
Farès, best known to many fans for The Crimson Rivers, died after being found unconscious in a swimming pool near her home in Paris. Authorities reportedly believe she suffered cardiac arrest.
Now, those close to Gibson fear the loss has shaken him badly.
“Mel is absolutely devastated,” one insider claimed. “He is walking around in a grief-stricken fog. Nadia meant a great deal to him. She was kind, supportive, and someone who encouraged him to make better choices.”
According to the source, Farès was more than just a former costar. She was allegedly someone Gibson leaned on during difficult emotional stretches, especially after the death of his father, Hutton Gibson, who passed away at 101.
“After his dad died, Mel was vulnerable,” the insider said. “Nadia was one of the people who helped him stay grounded during that time.”
Gibson’s past struggles have been well documented. His career was badly damaged in 2006 after a DUI arrest in Malibu, where he made an anti-Semitic rant that sparked outrage across Hollywood. He pleaded no contest, and the conviction was later expunged after he completed probation, but the fallout followed him for years.
Then, in 2010, Gibson faced another ugly scandal after leaked audio recordings captured him yelling at then-partner Oksana Grigorieva. He later pleaded no contest to misdemeanor spousal battery and avoided jail time.
For years, Gibson has tried to rebuild his public image and his personal life. Sources claim Farès was one of the people who supported him as he worked to stay on a better path.
“He has made a massive effort to turn his life around,” an insider said. “But sobriety and emotional stability are ongoing battles. Having strong people around him matters.”
The timing of Farès’ death is said to be especially painful because Gibson has already been going through major personal changes. In late 2025, he confirmed his split from Rosalind Ross, 35, his partner of nine years and the mother of his youngest child.
Now, friends allegedly fear he is facing too much heartbreak at once.
“He is in a lonely and vulnerable place,” the insider claimed. “Losing Nadia could be the thing that really knocks him off balance.”
Gibson, a father of nine, has survived years of public scandal, career setbacks, and personal turmoil. But those close to him reportedly believe this loss has hit him in a deeply personal way.
“She was a rock for him,” the source said. “Without her, people are worried about how he is going to cope.”
