Kate Middleton’s bond with King Charles has never been stronger—and palace insiders say their closeness could shake up the monarchy in ways no one expected.
The Princess of Wales, 43, has become one of the King’s most trusted allies, with sources claiming Charles, 76, now leans on her more than anyone else in the royal household. “He even calls her the daughter he never had,” one courtier revealed.
But not everyone is thrilled about this new dynamic. Tensions between Charles and Prince William, 43, are still raw, and Queen Camilla, 78, is rumored to be uneasy about Catherine’s growing influence.
The Queen has never been Kate’s biggest fan. Royal biographers say Camilla once dismissed her as “not worthy” of the royal family because of her middle-class background. Insiders add that Camilla isn’t exactly thrilled at the idea of eventually handing off ceremonial duties to her step-daughter-in-law.
“Camilla never pictured Catherine as the one carrying the crown forward,” a palace source admitted.
Meanwhile, William’s relationship with his father is already strained, especially after Charles met privately with Prince Harry earlier this year—something William reportedly opposed. Kate being so close to the King only adds to the tension.
Charles, however, has never hidden his admiration for Kate. At a 2023 state banquet in Kenya, he called her his “beloved daughter-in-law.” And Kate has shown that love right back. At a recent royal funeral, she greeted the King warmly with kisses on both cheeks before curtseying, a moment seen as symbolic of their bond.
A senior aide explained, “Charles clearly draws strength from Catherine. Her steadiness has won his lasting admiration. But that kind of influence doesn’t go unnoticed—and it makes some people uneasy.”
Royal watchers believe Kate’s role could reshape the monarchy itself. She now sits at the center of three crucial relationships—with her husband William, with the King, and with Queen Camilla. Two are thriving, one is clearly fractured.
As one insider put it: “When one figure becomes so close to the King, it’s bound to cause jealousy. Catherine’s influence is real, and it’s already changing the palace balance.”

Camilla has NO room to speak. She doesn’t exactly come from a pristine, clean background either. Kate has a far better history and track record. And Camilla doesn’t really like anyone, outside of herself and possibly King Charles. So I wouldn’t give her “viewpoint” much weight.
