In the wake of the shocking assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk earlier this year, sources close to Adele say the British superstar is gripped by fear—and there’s “no chance” she’ll step onto the world’s biggest stage for the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show.

Adele, 37, was reportedly in serious talks to headline next year’s NFL halftime show in Santa Clara, California—a gig watched by over 100 million viewers. But after Kirk was shot and killed during a public speaking event, insiders say Adele has become more withdrawn than ever.

“She’s terrified,” a longtime music industry executive told us. “What happened to Kirk hit her hard. She’s convinced that standing in front of a massive stadium audience puts her in real danger.”

Adele, who has lived in Los Angeles for years, has allegedly scaled back her public life to the bare minimum. Friends say she rarely ventures out unless it’s strictly for work—and even then, only under heavy security.

“She hates leaving her house,” said a source close to her team. “She’s surrounded by staff and a few family members, but she avoids the outside world. She says she couldn’t bear to be a target.”

The singer, known for baring her soul in her music, has never been a fan of massive stadium-style performances. In 2016, she turned down the Super Bowl gig, telling a live audience, “That show is not about music. I can’t dance or anything like that.”

But in recent months, it wasn’t about dancing—it was about danger.

According to those who know her, Adele’s deep concern isn’t just for herself—it’s for her young son. “She’s told friends she has to stay alive for him,” one associate said. “The paranoia is very real.”

While she may still command record-breaking residency numbers in Vegas and beyond, Adele has long been uncomfortable with the spotlight. Now, with political tensions rising and public figures being targeted, her fears have intensified.

“She’s got that same mix of warmth and wit in private that her fans love,” said a close friend, “but now there’s a layer of fear behind it. She’ll joke one minute and then get deadly serious the next.”

Instead of stepping onto the Super Bowl stage, Adele is said to be pouring her energy into something much safer: a tell-all autobiography. Publishing insiders say she recently signed a multi-million-dollar deal to write her life story, from her humble beginnings in London to Grammy glory and heartbreak.

“She finally feels ready to tell her story,” said one insider. “And she loves that she can do it behind closed doors—no flashing lights, no crowds, and no risks.”

What about a new world tour or album? Those plans, too, are reportedly on hold. “She’s evaluating everything right now,” the source continued. “Her fear of public appearances is real—and she’s not going to risk her safety just to promote a record.”

As for the Super Bowl? Don’t hold your breath. “There’s no way she’s stepping onto that field,” the executive concluded. “She’d feel like she had a bullseye on her back.”
