NFL Star Breaks Down After Brutal Leg Injury

It was a devastating night for the Washington Commanders — and especially for defensive end Deatrich Wise — as the team suffered both a crushing loss and a string of brutal injuries in their 27-18 defeat against the Green Bay Packers.

Wise, a respected NFL veteran and former Patriots captain, was left in tears after suffering a gruesome leg injury during the second quarter. The horrifying moment unfolded as he attempted to block a Packers extra point — only to have his leg folded awkwardly beneath a falling player. Medics raced to the field as Lambeau fell silent.

His reaction said it all: Wise was visibly heartbroken as he lay on the turf and had to be carted off with teammates looking on in shock. He was officially ruled out just minutes into the third quarter.

Unfortunately, Wise wasn’t the only player to go down.

Running back Austin Ekeler was also sidelined with a suspected Achilles tear after collapsing mid-route in a non-contact injury that looked every bit as painful. Ekeler, 30, couldn’t put weight on his leg and was soon taken to the locker room on a cart. The Commanders later confirmed the Achilles injury but haven’t released a full diagnosis yet.

Adding to the nightmare, tight end John Bates and receiver Noah Brown also left the game injured.

Wise signed with Washington earlier this year on a one-year, $3.25 million deal, bringing leadership and experience to the defensive line after years with New England. He made a solid impact in Week 1 against the Giants, notching two solo tackles and a quarterback hit.

But Thursday’s injury could be a major blow for both the player and the franchise.

Video of the incident quickly went viral, with many fans expressing heartbreak over the veteran’s emotional reaction. “Hope it’s nothing serious,” one fan wrote, echoing the sentiments of thousands who watched Wise get carted off.

The Packers weren’t spared either. Head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed after the game that wide receiver Jayden Reed broke his collarbone and will miss “significant time.”

With matchups looming against the Raiders, Falcons, and Chargers, the Commanders are suddenly facing a major depth crisis. It’s unclear how quickly any of the injured stars will return — or if some may be lost for the season.
